"Thank you for agreeing to do this, ladies." the director said. "No problem." Alex said. "It'll be fun." I added. "So what are our parts like?" "I'm not going to give you any lines." the director said. "I'm just going to tell you what your characters' personalities are like and let you go with it. Thalia, you're the king's youngest daughter, but you want nothing to do with what you call 'princess stuff'. You're tough, tomboyish, and sarcastic. Alex, you're the youngest daughter of a different king, a couple years older than Thalia. You two are polar opposites. You're sheltered, girly, and a bit stuck up. You two are kidnapped together, and Alex is hoping that Prince Charming will come save her. Thalia just thinks Alex is an idiot. The story is how you go from hating each other to being good friends and escaping together. Got it?" "Got it." I said, grinning. I liked this role. "Good." the director said. "So, we're going to get you two into costumes and makeup, then get you on the set and see what you do." Alex and I were taken into separate dressing rooms. I was dressed in a ripped shirt and trousers, my hair was done in a messy half braid, and dirt was smeared on my face. We were then taken to a dungeon set and cuffed to the wall. Alex was dressed in a torn dress made of red silk, and her hair was done in princess braids. ((Princess braids are where the person has two thin front braids tied in the back.)) "Action!" the director said. I began tugging at the cuffs holding my wrists to the wall, trying unsuccessfully to get free. Alex watched me with a bored expression. "Why do you bother?" she asked eventually. "What do you mean?" I asked. Alex rolled her eyes. "Why even bother trying to pull out of the cuffs?" she asked. "All you're doing is tearing the skin off your wrists. It's pointless." I glared at her. "Okay, what's your brilliant plan to get us out of here?" I asked. "Simple." Alex said. "Wait for Prince Charming to rescue us." I laughed. "Prince Charming?!" I asked. "That's a good one! I doubt anyone even knows we're gone! Most likely, no one even cares!" Alex glared at me. "No one cares about you, maybe." she said. "And honestly, I'm not surprised, but they've probably sent out a search party to look for me." I laughed again. "Hate to break it to you, your highness, but we're not worth anything." I said. "We're the youngest. We're expendable. We're never gonna be queen. Sooner you realize that, the happier you'll be." at that moment, another actor came in and set a tray in front of each of us. The tray held a piece of bread and a cup of water. "Eat up, your majesties." the man said. "Don't want you two wasting away before we can have our fun with you." he left the room, and I tore off a hunk of bread with my teeth. Alex, however, turned her nose up at the bread. "You gonna eat that?" I asked with my mouth full. "Absolutely not." Alex said, wrinkling her nose. "And your manners are positively barbaric." I rolled my eyes, grabbing Alex's bread and eating it. "You're going to have to get used to it while you wait for Prince Charming." I said, curling up as best I could with my chains. "Night, your highness." "Cut!" the director said. "Now, we're going to do some briefing and makeup stuff." the makeup crew came in and did some bruising on our faces while the director talked. "So, in this next scene, you two have just been tortured." the director said. "Thalia, you were a bit cocky, so you got knocked out. Alex, you're starting to learn to like Thalia, so you're worried about her. Ready to do this?" "Yup!" Alex and I said. I closed my eyes and hung limply, suspended by my chains. "Action!" the director said. Alex shook my shoulder. "Thalia?" she asked hesitantly. I did nothing. "Thalia!" Alex said, shaking me harder. "Oh, why did you have to be a cocky idiot?" she asked, and I knew she'd buried her face in her hands. I opened my eyes, straightened up, and smirked. "If I didn't know better, your highness, I'd say you were getting attached to me." "Nonsense." Alex snapped, glaring at me. "Mmmhmm." I said, still smirking. "Just don't do that again." Alex said. "Why?" I asked. "Are you worried about me?" "No." Alex said. "But if Prince Charming doesn't come, you're my best chance of getting out of here alive." I shrugged, and Alex sighed. "Fine." she said. "I'm starting to learn to like you. True, you're cocky, and your manners are barbaric, but you're a good kid." I nodded. "Same goes for you." I said. "Except, you know, minus the bit about the cockiness and the manners. You're sheltered, girly, delusional, and stuck up, but you're a good person too." Alex reached over and put her hand on top of mine, and we shared a smile. A real, genuine smile. "So have you let go of the Prince Charming idea?" I asked. "I'm beginning to." Alex said. "Good." I said. "Because I might have found a way out of here." "Cut." the director said. "That's a wrap."
