Happy and sad boy

A few weeks later it's the day before Christmas Eve and Niamh is sat in her room, still in Malaysia wrapping Matthews's birthday presents.

She smiles to herself and she wraps some clothes for him and remembers the first time she dressed Matthew as a new born. The memory is so clear in her head as she clearly remembers telling Joe she'll break Matthew when holding him. 

Suddenly Niamh starts to cry as she realises Joe won't see his first birthday, it didn't bother her that much but she couldn't understand why she is crying.

"Hello sis... what's up?" A voice comes from the door, Niamh wipes her face and eyes with her sleeve and looks up to see Niall standing smiling at her.

"I don't know" she cries as Niall comes over.

He sits himself down on the bed and pulls Niamh into a hug. "Is it about Joe?" Niall asks.

Niamh nods and wipes her tears away again. "I don't know" she replies again.

"Niamh I know you so well it's always about a boy" he teases as he tickles her.

Niamh squeals and fights back against Niall and gets him in a headlock. "You okay Niamh?" Brain says as he hurries through, as he heard Niamh screaming.

"Yes" Niamh laughs as Niall lifts her up and gets himself free of the head lock.

"Oh god how old are you two? You're acting like your ten and twelve again" Brian smiles before walking off.

Niamh gets down and hits her brother playfully and sits back on the bed "no more" she laughs.

"Come on Niamh" he laughs as he pokes her arm.

"No I need to wrap my sons birthday presents" she says.

Niall laughs "that kid is spoilt... could of he had his birthday on a normal day not Christmas" Niall laughs as he teases his younger sister.

"I couldn't help it that he wanted out... it was slow enough and painful enough" she laughs as she looks up to see her mum walking across the hall way with Matthew on her hip.

"Someone wants their mummy" Barbara smiles as she brings Matthew to her as she's finished the last present now.

"Oh sweet boy what's up now" Niamh says as she takes Matthew off Barbara and he looks rather flushed as if he's been crying.

Matthew clings to Niamh and holds a bunch of her hair in his hand as he clings to her, "has granny upset you wee man?" Niamh coos.

"All I did was let Molly out and he started crying" Barbara laughs.

"Oh dear Matty was you playing with Molly?" Niamh asks as she knows he has an obsession with the dogs tail.

Niamh kisses his cheek and tickles under his chin "oh look at this chubby chin chubster" Niamh laughs as she bounces him.

"Maybe he misses his dad" Brian says as he walks past.

"Don't be silly, Matthew is never all for him at home so I can't see why he misses him Now" Niamh explains.

"I know this may sound silly but what if he knows you're upset and wants his daddy so you'll be happy" Brian adds.

Niamh huffs and rolls her eyes at her parents "don't come all huffy now young lady... still not to old for a smack" Barbara warns her.

Niamh just tuts and glared at her parents, "No I don't" she says.

"Niamh we can hear you crying at night you know" Brian admits.

She looks at them in shock and shakes her head "no I don't stop it, it's not true..." she says.

"Well who else is it then? Because Chloe is in London" Barbara replies.

Niamh goes quiet and puts Matthew now on the bed and gives him his dummy.

She then walks over to her mum "can I have some privacy please" she says indicating for them to leave.

Barbara and Brian listen to Niamh's wishes and leaves her be, she shuts the door and walks over to Matthew.

"Hello pretty boy, how about mummy runs you a bath... we can have some play time wth the bubbles too" Niamh smiles as she pulls Matthew top off.

He sits there watching Niamh eating his fist innocently, "Mama!" He squeals as she tickles his back.

She picks him up and kisses his tummy and tips him upside down Matthew burst into a fit of giggles and squeals.
"Mama!" He squeals as he pushes against Niamh's face.

"There's that wee smile" Niamh says as she sits on the bed and takes his socks and sorts off leaving him in a nappy.

Just a quick update, my co-writer maybe reprising her role as co-writer, not sure when but she's agreed to come back and write at some point.
