It's been two days since Niamh and Joe left for their honeymoon leaving Matthew with Niamh's parents.

It's currently 10am in the morning and Matthew has been out in the garden alone for the past hour with the dog.

He strolls in through the back door and sits himself on a stool at the breakfast table opposite Barbara.

"Hello you, what's up?" Barbara asks as she looks up from her newspaper.

"When is mummy and daddy going to be back" he asks her.

"I told you last night not long now" Barbara says.

"Can I phone them?" His face lights up.

"You called them the other day, I'm sure they're busy" Barbara says.

"But I want to tell them what I did at nursery... I did them a picture" he wines.

"Matthew that wasn't nursery that was a children's club because me and granddad were at work, anyway I don't have their number" Barbara says trying to make him believe her but Matthew is smart and knows she does.

"But you phone them all the time... please" he pleads.

"No!" Barbara says and Matthew frowns before he starts to throw a tantrum, he throws himself to the floor, kicks his legs and starts to scream at the top of his lungs.

"Matthew that's enough!" Barbara says firmly as he continues to lay on the floor.

He screams and kicks his legs more which causes Molly to start to howl.
Matthew sits up and crosses his arms and glares at Molly.

"Oh dear Molly shut you up didn't she? Do you throw tantrums and home when Mummy and Daddy don't let you have your own way?" Barbara asks as Molly barks at Matthew and runs over to him.

"No Molly" Matthew says as she continues to bark at him.

She starts to bounce around thinking he's playing and he smacks Molly and she instantly cries and Barbara looks down at him and gets up "do I have to smack your legs? Matthew James McFadden!" Barbara warns.

"Noo" he wines and kicks his legs as he looks at the floor.

"Molly out!" Barbara says as he's winding the dog up. "Right Mr up now!" She says.

She holds onto his arm and pulls him up so he is standing.
Matthew goes floppy and looks up at Barbara and whines.

"Matthew stand up now!" She warns.

"I want my mummy... what can't I call my mummy and Daddy!" Matthew cries.

He coughs and chokes as he cries "stop it now Matthew! You'll make yourself poorly!" Barbara huffs.

"But I want to speak to my mummy but you won't let me" he cries.

"Fine you can call them... once you've calmed down!" Barbara huffs.

Matthew starts to slow his breathing and wipe his eyes.

"Now come here let me wipe your nose" Barbara smiles as he's got a snotty nose. "You know when your mummy was your age she didn't do that, she always behaved herself" Barbara smiles.

"So... am I bad" he says more quietly.

"No you're just different to your mummy" Barbara smiles happily.

She gets her phone out and gets Niamh's number up. "But everyone says I'm like my mummy" he says

"You are in other ways" she smiles.

"What other ways" Matthew asks.

"The way you smile, your eyes" Barbara smiles as she calls out the phone number and passes it to Matthew.
