Causing Concern

Once they get back Matthew and Jordan run off to find Barbara to show her the sea shells they have collected while Joe helps Niamh out the car.

"Come on you, I'll get you a nice drink when we get inside" he says as he helps her.

"I feel awful Joe I think I might just go to bed" Niamh replies.

Joe smiles and looks at her as she stands. "Don't go to bed sit up with me downstairs. You'll feel much better" he smiles

Niamh nods and Joe gets them inside. "Enjoy your walk?" Barbara says as she sees them all come through.

"We got ice cream" Matthew beams as he walks by her with Jordan.

Soon Joe and Niamh walk into the lounge and Niamh instantly sits on the sofa without saying anything.

"What happened?" Barbara asks Joe as he comes into the kitchen.

"She's not feeling good, I don't know what to do. I don't know if she should just go home or stay" Joe replies

"Maybe keep her here for now, got people here to keep an eye on her" she smiles.

"Joe?!" He hears Niamh calling in a shaky voice. Joe rushes through and looks at her.

"Babe?" He says worriedly

"Can you please rub my back? Might ease the pain" she sighs and leans forward.

Joe gives a sigh of relief and smiles before walking over to her. "Barbara could you do Niamh a hot water bottle please" Joe smiles as he looks up.

"Coming up" she smiles and Joe sits behind Niamh.

Niamh sits there quietly and enjoys her back rub. "I said to your mum maybe we should go home if you're not well."

"No, no I'm quite well" Niamh lies.

"Are you sure you want to stay" he asks concerned.

"I'm fine, stop over reacting... what are you thinking Joseph?" Niamh questions.

Okay we'll stay, I'm just worried" he sighs.

"Joe stop worrying, I'm fine" she smiles happily and relaxes against him.

"Is it helping" he smiles.

She simply nods and just sits there contently. "Here's your hot water bottle Niamh" Barbara smiles.

"Thank you" Niamh smiles and takes it.

Soon Niamh has fallen asleep on Joe and he sits there quietly stroking her hair.

He noticed she had felt a bit heavy and looks round to see she's nodded off. He smiles and kisses her head. Barbara comes in and looks at Joe. "Comfortable?" She chuckles.

"I think she is" he laughs.

Barbara sits down and smiles. "Matthew is sat at the kitchen table colouring in. She looks exhausted" Barbara whispers.

"She was in pain while at the beach, hope some sleep helps" he smiles.

"Pain?" Barbara questions him.

"She's not even sure what it is but it seemed to have calmed while sitting here" he says.

They sit there quietly watching Niamh sleep.

Around an hour later Barbara has started the dinner and Joe is playing with Matthew and Jordan in the back garden.

"Come on boy try and score" Joe edges Jordan on as they play with the football.

"Jordan rushes towards the ball at the same time as Matthew and they collide both landing on the floor.

"Ahhh!" Matthew calls out as he holds his head.

Joe stands there looking at them both smirking. "Right lads get up..."

"Daddy!" Matthew suddenly cries out hysterically.

"Did you bump your head mr" Joe chuckles.

Matthew looks up at Joe and cries as he lifts his arms up to him. Joe notices Matthews mouth is full of blood so he picks him up.

"How about we get a cold cloth" Joe talks calmly so not to worry Matthew.

Matthew nods and holds him tightly as he cries hysterically. Jordan follows in also tearful holding his head.

Joe runs a cloth under the cold tap and places it on Matthew's mouth.

"What's all the commotion?"
Barbara questions as she sees Matthew sat on the counter crying.

"I fell over and hurt my mouth" Matthew mumbles as he tries to speak.

"Oh no" Barbara says as she walks over to him and picks Jordan up to comfort him also.

"They both ran at the ball, at the same time" Joe smirks.

"Oh dear, looks like your in the wars" she laughs.

"I want mummy!" He cries as Joe tries to clean him up.

"Matty, Mummy is asleep" Joe says trying to sooth him.

"But I want mummy!" He cries again not giving in.

Barbara sighs and puts Jordan down before walking into the lounge to find Niamh sat up in a sleepy daze.

"What's all that noise mum" Niamh mutters.

"Matthew has hurt his mouth, he wants you... Jordan why don't you get your jammies on" Barbara says before sorting Jordan.

Niamh takes a breath and slowly stands before going to look for Matthew.
