Boats and ducks

Niamh takes Matthew through to the bathroom and takes his nappy off and wipes him down, before placing him in the bath on his slip mat.

"Is that nice?" Niamh coos as she moves the water with her hand, Matthew instantly copies and splashes and gets it in his face.

She laughs and wipes his face, she grabs his bath bag and gets out a duck and a boat for him to play with.

A smile once again grows on Matthew face and he squeals with delight. "Is that nice baby?" Niamh coos as she strokes his head.

Matthew smiles up at Niamh and passes her the duck, "that's a duck Matty" Niamh smiles.

He smiles at her and squeals again as he plays for a little longer, Niamh then takes the bath toys out and places them in the sink.

She lies him down and washes his hair which he doesn't like and starts to kick up a fuss. "I know nearly done" Niamh smiles as she washes his hair out.

Once all the soap his out his hair she grabs his towel off the radiator and gets him out the bath, she wraps him up and lets the water out the bath.

Niamh then carries Matthew through to her room and dries him off and gets a clean set of pyjamas out.

She puts his nappy on and some cream as he's got a bit of nappy rash and then fully dresses him, "now who's a big boy in their new two piece jammies" Niamh coos as she kisses his head.

She gets her phone out and takes a photo of him as he sits there eating his fist. She posts the photo on her instagram then shares it to twitter. She comments 'two days until my baby boy turns one, looking all smart in his big boy jammies'.

Niamh puts her phone down and carries Matthew downstairs to do his bed time milk. "So are you missing Joe?" Niall says as he appears from out the sun room.

"Oh god Niall you made me jump" Niamh says as she puts her free hand on her chest.

"So are you?" He asks.

"No" Niamh says simply as she rests Matthews's milk before taking Matthew back upstairs.

She sits him in the middle of her bed and gives him his milk. Niamh sits beside him and scrolls through her phone, she looks at her instagram as she has 300 likes and 50 comments in the space of ten minutes.

"Gosh Matty, you make Mummy look more famous than she is" Niamh smiles as he looks at her.

"Mama!" Matthew smiles as he chucks empty milk bottle down and crawls over onto her lap.

"What you want trouble" she smiles as she rubs his back just incase he has trapped wind.

He burps a little and turns on her lap and look up at her. "Gosh don't you look like your daddy when you do that" Niamh smiles.

Matthew leans back against Niamh's stomach and Niamh lies down. Matthew lies on her stomach with his dummy in hand and slowly drifts off to sleep.

Niamh lies on the bed for a good half hour with Matthew on her, she smiles to herself as she sits up carefully not to wake him.

She lifts him up and carries him into the spare room where he's sleeping and puts him down in the cot.

She dims the light and walks back through to her room and cleans up a little.

Once she's cleans up she looks at her phone and messages Joe, 'if you really want to you can FaceTime me and on Matthews birthday' she sends it without any kisses and presumes Joe's at work.

She lies down on her bed before she heard a knock at her door, "come in" Niamh says as she sits up on the bed.

Her mum enters and smiles at her "thought you could do with a couple of glasses" her mum says as she shows her a bottle of red wine.

Niamh smiles at her and takes a glass off her, "want to go sit outside?" Barbara asks.

She nods and grabs her dressing gown before following her mum downstairs and out into the back garden.

Barbara pours them a glass of wine each and sits beside Niamh. "Early birthday drinks for Matthew" Barbara explains and Niamh smiles.

"It's gone quick" Niamh replies as she sips her drink.

"I clearly recall a phone call from Joe at around twelve at night saying you'd had him" Barbara smiles.

"I remember that too, we sent you a photo first but Joe was excited so called you" Niamh smiles as a tear slips down her face.

"What's up?" She asks Niamh.

"Nothing, this past year has been a big deal... so much responsibility and I've realised my personal time is with Matthew now... but I'd never change a single moment" she says.

Barbara smiles at her and hugs her with a free hand. "I remember when I had you... I was so happy and confused, I had this tiny baby who needed me 24'7 and I was only 24" She says.

Niamh smiles at her "well I'm 26 and it's still hard to get over, I was only
25 when I had him and well I felt the same" she smiles as she sips her wine.

They both sit outside for the next hour just talking and drinking, with not a care in the world.
