A single tear

When Joe comes home from work he is shocked to see Niamh had actually left for Malaysia which is very heart breaking for Joe.

He walks into the kitchen to see a note from Niamh on the breakfast bar:

Joe,
I'm sorry it had to end this way, we haven't been as close really and it's best for me to head back to Malaysia.
It hasn't been the same since Elliot but I want you to know it wasn't you at all it was me, I had beaten myself to much up over it.

I want you to know Matthew loves you and I won't stop you for seeing him when we come over for a few weeks. I'll stop with my sister near Lambeth , London.

A single tear falls onto the paper as he reads the letter from Niamh, he looks under the paper to see her engagement ring from him.

His heart breaks as he knows she actually means it, she had not taken the engagement ring off since he proposed to her back in Malaysia.

He quickly messages her on iMessage 'Niamh you have to be joking me, it isn't the end please don't say this' he doesn't get a reply as she's on the plane.

Joe sits down on the sofa completely heart broken that Niamh has left him. He cries quietly to himself, Niamh was his whole world and he was faithful to her.

Meanwhile Niamh is sat on the plane an hour into her 13 and a half hour flight to Malaysia. She has Matthew lying against her chest fast asleep, she can't help but cry to herself which catches the attention of the elderly woman sitting next to her.

"Are you alright my love?" The elderly woman asks.

Niamh looks up at her and nods as she cries. "Yeah" she mutters through the tears.

"Are you sure? You seem awfully upset" she says.

"It's nothing, it's silly really" Niamh mumbles as she wipes her eyes with her free hand. 

"Well my dear it isn't silly we all have to have a cry now and then" she smiles as she touches Niamh's hand. 

Niamh smiles a little as it's rather true "I split up with my fiancé" she says.

"Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that... may I ask where you're heading now?" The elderly lady asks politely.

"Off to my parents... they live in Malaysia" Niamh says as she strokes Matthews's head.

"Lois" the elderly woman says as she introduces herself to Niamh.

"Niamh" she replies as she shakes Lois's hand.

Niamh sits quietly for a bit in a world of her own starring out the window as Matthew sleeps on her chest. 

It's not long before Lois  taps Niamh's shoulder "would you like to share this with me?" She asks as she has a bottle of red wine in her hand.

Niamh smiles a little "if you're offering yes" she smiles.

Lois asks the flight attendant for another glass and he gives her one. Lois pours them a glass and Niamh changes Matthew so he's lying in her other arm near the window. 

"He's gorgeous, how old is he?" Lois asks as she looks at Matthew who has his one eye open.

"Eleven months old" Niamh smiles as she looks down at Matthew.

"Gosh he's big isn't her" Lois smiles as she makes a joke about it.

"Yes he... takes after his dad" she sighs.

"Tall then" Lois smiles.

Niamh nods and laughs "they all joke at work that I need a block to stand on to film with him" she laughs.

"Oh you're an actress" Lois smiles.

Niamh nods and gives a small laughs as she sips the red wine. "Yes I am" she smiles.

"Oh what have you been in, I'm really sorry but I've never seen you" she laughs.

Niamh smiles and looks at Matthew "oh Holby City, Silent Witness, Jekyll and Hyde on ITV and Causalty" Niamh smiles.

Lois smiles "heard of them but I don't watch much tv, you need my granddaughter she loves TV her names Kaitlyn" she smiles and Niamh gives a little smile back as Matthew sits up and looks around.

"Hello precious boy" Niamh smiles as Matthew looks at her and clings to her top as he's in a strange environment.

"hey it's okay mummy's got you" Niamh says as Matthew seems a little bit nervous by Lois sitting next to Niamh.

"Aw bless him such a sweet sole" Lois smiles as she strokes his cheek and he suddenly hides his face in Niamh's cleavage.

"Sorry he's starting to get stranger anxiety... hates it when I have to leave him at the nursery" Niamh says as he strokes Matthew back and tells him everything is fine.

Matthew peers over at Lois before hiding his face again "what you up to little chap" Lois smiles as she tickles his hand.

They both see a smile appear on Matthews's face as she tickles his hand. "Oi cheeky stop hiding" Niamh says as she sits him up again.

Matthew smiles at Niamh and leans forward again and tries to hide his face, "mama!" He smiles.

"Oh he speaks" Lois smiles.

Niamh nods and smiles "yes we're getting there with the speech... going to surprise his granny when we get to Malaysia" Niamh smiles as she stands Matthew on her knees to keep him occupied.

"Walking?" Lois asks curiously.

"No yet, but he can edge himself along the sofa" Niamh smiles as she bounces Matthew as he stands on her knees.

Lois smiles "well that's a start" she says.

Niamh smiles and kisses Matthews head and he rests his head against her face.

"Mama" Matthew whines as he holds onto her top and pulls her top.

"Lets get you something to eat yeah" Niamh coos as she leans forward and gets some baby biscuits out of her bag.

She opens them and gives Matthew one as she sits him back on her lap. He sits there quietly giving Niamh some peace for a few minutes, until he's after the other biscuit which is in the pack.

She then gets his bottle out which has orange juice in and gives it him. He places the chewed biscuit in Niamh's hand and smiles.

"Oh lovely Matty" Niamh says as she pulls a face and wraps it in some tissue. While she has the tissue she also wipes Matthews face.

For the next few hours Matthew is asleep on Niamh again and Niamh manages to get some sleep too.
