Sympathy before the truth

She starts to get a little tearful by the time Joe gets off the phone.
"She's coming for him now, I'll get his stuff together and you sit down and take it easy" he says as he goes to walk out the Lounge.

"Joe I haven't been very honest with you..." Niamh replies quietly.

He turns to face her and gives her a sympathetic look.

"I fell..." she mumbles and plays with her hair.

"...you what...how? When?" He asks quite quickly.

"Earlier... I kinda stumbled, lost my balance" she lies.

"Niamh... you're a brilliant actress but you can't pull the wool over my eyes" He says.

Niamh rubs her bump in small circles, "I was on the tube" she admits.

Joe looks at her trying to register what she just told him, "Why wasn't you sitting down?" Joe says.

"There..there was no seats for me... so I had to stand" she explains to him.

Joe just stares at her for a while and huffs "you're not going by Tube again" He says

"What! Joe you can't treat me like I'm some sort of child" she protests.

"Well I can if you're going to fall over on there, why didn't you ask someone to move?" Joe asks as he looks through to the kitchen to see Matthew still eating.

"No one would budge! Surely they would of noticed" Niamh says turning to get a drink of water.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Joe asks as she seems a little off colour.

She takes a moment to herself and thinks about what happened. "I... I... haven't felt it move for ages" she says her voice getting more screachy and she starts to cry.

Joe smiles a little trying not to worry Niamh too much, "Right when Chloe gets Matthew we'll go to A&E" Joe suggests.

"But it's your birthday" Niamh replies.

"It's been my birthday all day and I've been working, I think I can manage another hour or so without having dinner" Joe smiles trying to get her to smile.

"I'll got by myself" Niamh replies as she feels more guilty.

"No you won't" he tells her just as the doorbell goes.

Joe goes and answers the door and let's Niamh's sister in. "Thank you for coming early" Joe smiles as he lets her in.

"It's no trouble. Matthew are you ready!" She calls through and he shoots up as he hears her name.

"Wheres Jordan then?" Joe asks as he watches Matthew grabs his shoes.

"Woth his dad" Chloe smiles as Niamh walks through.

Chloe spots Niamh coming through, "hey look at you" she smiles as pulls her into a hug instantly.

Niamh smiles at her and pulls out of the hug, "gosh you're showing now, how long again?" Chloe smiles.

"Five months, over the half way now" Niamh replies.

"Going so quick" Chloe says as she can't believe how far she is.

"Oh I know, now Matthew have you got your teddy? Chlo... I've put his pyjamas, pants and socks, clothes for tomorrow and wash stuff in his bag, and his pillow is just there" Niamh says.

"Fully prepared" Chloe laughs and takes the bag that is on the sofa.

"Right then say bye to your mummy and daddy" Chloe says to Matthew.

Matthew smiles and goes over to Niamh as she bends down to hug him. She kisses his cheek and he moves on to Joe. "Bye mummy and daddy! I'll be back tomorrow" he reassures them which they all laugh at.
