Roll cameras part 2

Questioning

Once they've got home and put their shopping away it's time for them to pick Matthew up and they both decide to go and get him for a change.

They drive to the pre-school and park up and go and wait in the school grounds.

They children start to come out and Matthew is one of the last and is walking behind one of the teachers.

"Oh dear that isn't a very happy face on Matthew" Niamh says to Joe as they walk over to him.

"Mr and Mrs McFadden I presume" the teacher says.

"Actually I..." Niamh says put it cut off by Joe.

"Yes we are, what's up?" He asks.

"Can I have a word with you inside please?" She asks them and Niamh looks at Joe and he nods.

They follow the teacher into the nursery and she sits them down in the office.

Joe looks at Matthew who is still stood there and he calls him over and puts him on his lap.

"So what seems to be the problem" Joe asks.

"It has been brought to my attention by Matthews teacher Natalie that he may of said some inappropriate words" she begins.

"Oh" Niamh says as she looks at Matthew who's still sat on Joe's lap.

"What did he say?" Joe asks.

The teacher looks down at the statement and reads it out to them, "while Matthew Walsh was playing with the home corner kitchen set, he picks up a cup and pretends to pour a drink. Walsh takes hold of T.Harris's hand and smiles before walking to an imaginary door and shouting 'for F sake come and get your dinner, leave that till later, don't even try going for a s*it" the teacher reads.

Niamh and Joe exchange stunned looks before both looking at Matthew. "Are you sure, he's never said a bad word in his life" Niamh says.

She nods and looks up at them, "It was I'm very sorry" the teacher says.

"Matthew did you say a rude word?" Niamh asks him and Matthew hides his face in Joe's arm.

"Matthew, come on" Joe says as he sits him up again.

"Matthew we want to know, you're not in trouble sweetie" Niamh says as she takes hold of Matthew's hand and strokes it.

"Mrs McFadden..." The teacher says as she's cut off by Niamh.

"Walsh... I'm a miss... Miss Walsh, I'm not married to him" Niamh says.

"Yet" joe buts in.

"I think Miss Walsh, you'll find he is in trouble" she says.

Matthew instantly starts to cry and puts his arms out to Niamh, she takes him off Joe and cuddles him "hey shh, it's okay" she smiles.
"Listen, Nicola... Nikita... What ever your name is! I don't care if he's said something wrong. He'll be told off at home, who even are you upsetting my baby... You don't have a right!" Niamh says.

"Niamh! Calm down" Joe says.

"I don't care!" Niamh snaps as she holds Matthew close.

"Thanks but we better be going" Joe says.

"No, we need to find out where he's heard this" Nicola says.

"It's from me okay, I said it once... Just once I didn't think he heard me" Niamh admits.

Joe strokes her knee and smiles at her for being honest. "Well that's good to hear, but we'll have to get social services involved" she says.

"Why?" Joe says in shock, "just because he said a bad word."

Niamh continued to hold Matthew close. "But why?" She questions.

"Matthew has bruising all down his legs and back" Nicola says.

Niamh gasps as she can't believe she's thinking that, "what! You think I would hurt my own son?" Niamh says.

Nicola simply nods and Niamh looks at Joe, "wait, Matthew what did you do to your back?" Joe asks Matthew.

Matthew looks at Joe and smiles "I fell down the stairs when I was trying to carry my Thomas the tank downstairs" Matthew replies innocently.

Nicola nods and adds it to his files but let's them go and just warns them. They head to the car and Joe straps Matthew into his car seat.
