Disturbance in the night

Niamh sits quietly in bed messing on her phone, she glances over at Joe who's lay next to her in a deep sleep, Niamh hadn't been able to get sleep for some hours and now all she wanted most was to fall to sleep. She puts her phone down, she then lies down and cuddles up to Joe.

He's lovely and warm and Niamh just drifts off peacefully into a calm sleep, around three hours later she's woken by Matthew who is calling for her and he sounds rather distressed. Niamh moans and kicks the duvet off and shuffles out of bed.

Her feet hit the cold laminate flooring as she sits up and she shivers a little before going to find what's wrong with Matthew. "Mummy!" Matthew cries.

Niamh turns on the light in his room and squints a little before walking over to him "What's up baby?" She soothes as she can see he's crying.

"I-I-I had a bad dream" He cries and rubs his eyes. Niamh pulls him into a hug and holds him tight.

"Baby, no one will hurt you. It was only a bad dream" She mumbles against his head.

Matthew hugs Niamh tightly and won't let go, he makes himself comfortable and slowly starts to calm down, "It was really scary, I think I wee'd too" Matthew admits.

Niamh lifts Matthew off his bed and she feels the mattress which is slightly damp "Oh dear, well at least you told me" She smiles calmly at him, she gets Matthew off his bed and stands him up before stripping him of his clothes.

"I'm cold now" Matthew whines as he's upset that he's wet the bed too.

She just gives him a friendly smile and grabs some more pyjamas out of the draw, "I'm afraid you've only got bed shorts left Matthew, I need to do some washing" Niamh smiles as she helps him into them.

Once he's dressed she strips the mattress back and goes into her room and opens the cupboard and gets out another mattress cover for Matthew, Joe wakes due to the light and rolls over to see Niamh stood up going through the airing cupboard. "What's going on?" He mutters as his eyes adjust to the light.

Niamh doesn't reply to him but goes back through to Matthew and puts a new mattress cover. "I'll put this on your bed and then you can go back to sleep, I can give you a bath in the morning before school" she smiles as she quickly sorts out Matthew and then puts him back to bed.

"Mummy, Don't go!" Matthew panics as she tucks him in and kisses his head.

"But I'm tired sweetie" Niamh mutters as she activates his nightlight and turns the main light off.

"Mummy please" He whines.

"No Matthew, Mummy needs to sleep. To let the baby, grow, remember" Niamh says and Matthew huffs and kicks off his blankets in protest.

Niamh shuts his door and goes back to her room and looks at Joe who's sat up looking back at her, "what's going on?" Joe asks.

She walks back over to the bed and sits back in bed and pulls the covers over herself "He wet the bed" Niamh replies.

Joe looks at Niamh a little bit confused, "I thought you said he was dry at night now" Joe says as he clearly recalls Niamh mentioning it.

"Yeah, I think It was a bad dream which leads to it" Niamh explains as she lies back down as she's starting to feel really tired now.

Joe turns leans over Niamh and turns her lap off before cuddling up against her under the covers, "Hopefully this isn't a recurring thing" Joe mutters against Niamh's shoulder as he places his hand on her small bump.

She turned her head to look at Joe, and can only just about make out the shape of Joe next to her. "Oh please be a one-off, I don't think I could manage him doing that every night" She sighs and closes her eyes.

"Well if there is a next time wake me and I'll sort it" Joe mutters and kisses her shoulder before letting Niamh drift off to sleep again.
