Winning Him over

Niamh goes off to try and find Joe, she walks down the corridor and through the doors.

She finds Joe sat with Matthew outside the ward. Matthew has a packet of crisps and a fruit shoot. Niamh stands back and listens to what Joe has to say to Matthew.

"...Look Matthew, your a big brother now, even if you have a sister, she is going to look up to you and I know she'll want to play with you when she's a bit bigger. Your going to have to help me take care of her, me and mummy will need your biggest help, can you do that?" Joe asks hoping to win him over.

"But why can't you send her back?" Matthew asks with a mouth full of crisps.

"Well Matthew, mummy and daddy didn't get a choice with you, we loved you anyway" Joe tells him.

Matthew slurps at his fruitshoot and looks at Joe, "Daddy, will you and mummy always love me? Even with my baby sister? Because Elijah at school said i would go to the children's home now" Matthew sighs.

"We will always love you, your not going anywhere except with us" Joe smiles.

Joe pulls Matthew close and kisses his head. He looks up and he notices Niamh. "Hi" Niamh smiles.

Matthew looks up too and smiles, "hi mummy!" He beams.

"What you two up too?" Niamh smiles.

"Mummy have you sent the baby back? So it can be just me, you and daddy?" Matthew smiles.

"No baby she's still with granny asleep" Niamh sighs.

Matthew sighs also and leans on Joe. "Matty you are just going to have to get used of her" Joe explains.

"But how, she won't want to play superheroes with me, she's a girl" Matthew says.

Niamh smiles slightly. "She will in time, I can buy her superhero costumes too, she can be lots of hero's right?"

"There are some girl ones" Matthew smiles a little.

"See it's not all the bad is it?" Joe smiles.

"I guess so" Matthew mumbles.

"Right well when Mummy gets back to London... are you listening Matthew?" Niamh asks and Matthew nods a little.
"When we're back in London I shall go and buy Maisie a super hero's costume yeah?" Niamh smiles.

"Can I come" Matthew asks.

Niamh nods and walks over to him "and if we have time we can get sweeties" Niamh smiles trying to win Matthew over.

"In that special shop?" Matthew asks cheekily.

"We will see" Niamh smiles.

"Shall we go and see Maisie then?" Joe suggests.

Matthew gives a little nod, Joe smiles and takes his hand as they take him back to Barbara to see Maisie.
