A library trip

Today is the day of Matthew very first school trip, Niamh is rather worried to put him in someone else's care out in public.

Niamh straps Matthew into his car seat in Joe's car and then gets herself in the front beside Joe, "ready?" She asks.

He nods and starts the car and drives to Matthews's pre-school just outside of West Hampstead.

"I'm nervous about this Joe" Niamh admits.

He glances at her "he's going to be fine, he'll be in the best of care" he smiles.

Once they arrive at the pre-school it's obvious that Matthew is very excited about the trip.

Niamh and Joe get out the car and drop him off at preschool. "remember to be extra safe today. Love you" Niamh reminds Matthew and kisses his forehead lightly.

"And if you need the toilet son remember to ask" Joe adds as he headed inside the classroom.

Once Matthew has gone in they head back to the car and Joe takes Niamh to Elstree and drops her off at work.

Once Joe has dropped Niamh off at work he head to London for an audition for a new character in Coronation Street.

As much as Joe wants the role he doesn't as he'll be 100s of miles away in Manchester, far away from his family.

Meanwhile Matthew is getting ready to go out on his first trip to the library. He runs over to his coat on his coat peg and puts it on.

His main carer while he is at Pre-school, Natalie stands and watches him as he attempts to zip his coat up.

Matthew starts to get frustrated as he doesn't understand how to zip it up, he whines and stamps his feet.

"Oh dear Matthew" Natalie smiles as she kneels down next to him and shoes him how to zip his coat up.
"Right Matthew you will be with Martha" Natalie smiles as a little girl comes over to Matthew and stands with him.

All the children line up and they head out to the library which is across the road and a two minute walk up the road.

When they arrive all the children get to pick a book to take home with them and which is to be returned in two weeks time.

Matthew finds a Spider-Man book and walks over to Natalie with it "I want this one Natalie please" he giggles.

"Isn't this a bit hard for you Matthew?" Natalie says.

"Daddy will read it me" he smiles cheekily.

Natalie nods and walks with him over to the old lady sat at the desk "what's your name then sweetie?" The old lady ask.

"Matthew" he smiles.

"Matthew Walsh" Natalie smiles as she passes the book to the old lady and then passes it to Matthew and helps him put it in his backpack.

Once they've all picked a book they get orange juice and a biscuit ready for a story. Matthew is the first to sit down but get up half way through the story and walks to Natalie.

"are you okay Matthew?" she questions.

"I need a wee wee" he mumbles.

Natalie gets up and walks to the toilets with him and waits outside for him.

Once he's come out he heads back to the group and gets his coat on as it's time to go back to school.

This time Natalie doesn't zip Matthew coat up and leaves him to do it. She sorts a few other children out and then the head back to the pre-school.

They head down the road and Matthew is still trying to do up his coat up. He stops for a bit as Natalie tells him so.

When she isn't looking Matthew starts to attempt to zip his coat up again as the class crossed the road.

Matthew stops as he was concentrating on the fastening his coat.

Natalie doesn't realise Matthew has stopped in the middle of the road, she hears a tire screech and then a thump of Matthew hitting the floor and suddenly the air fills with screaming from Matthew.

Natalie freezes and another teacher rushes over to Matthew. "Stay still sweetie" she says.

"Natalie call an ambulance!" The teacher shouts as two of the other day carers hurry the children into the pre-school.

"Mummy! I want my mummy!" He screams.

Natalie slowly walks across the road again, the driver gets out the car and looks at Matthew "oh my gosh I didn't seem him" the driver says.

"Mummy!" Matthew screams loudly.

"It's okay Matthew we'll get your mummy for you" the carer says.

The ambulance soon arrives and the paramedics jump out and run over to Matthew and a few of the teachers.

"So who do we have here?" The paramedic asks.

"This is Matthew and I'm Laura" she says nervously to the paramedic.

"Are you mum?" The paramedic asks and Laura shakes her head.

"Hey Matthew, how are you doing?" The other paramedic says as he kneels down beside Matthew.

"Mummy!" He continues to cry.

"Right Matthew I'm Dave and this is Julie and we're going to make sure you feel better" he smiles.

Julie also comes and kneels next to Matthew and smiles at him. They go through the usual procedure with Matthew and then attempt to put a cannula into his hand. "No!" Matthew screams as he sees the needle.

"It's okay Matthew, look at me, what's your favourite superhero?" Julie asks him to get his attention while Dave puts the cannula in.

"Spider-Man... but I like superman too" Matthew says cheerily

Once Julie has Matthews full attention Dave puts the cannula into his hand and bandages it up.

"Ow!" Matthew says.

"Good boy" she smiles and then they get ready to move Matthew on a board.

"Natalie you'll have to go with him I can't get hold of his parents" Laura says and Natalie nods and gets in the back of the ambulance.

She nods simply and gets up and goes back to the waiting area and checks her phone to see eighteen text messages and nine miss calls all from Joe.

The most recent text message is 'I'm at the hospital, just in the car park... where are you?x'  Niamh instantly replies and lets him know where she is.

Niamh lets him know where she is and as soon as he walks into the waiting room she runs over to him.

She runs to him and hugs him tightly and starts to cry into his chest. "Joe..." she cries.

Joe holds her close and kisses her head, "come on lets go sit down" he says.
