Steve's POV
"Come on, Buck. We have to volunteer at the animal shelter." I said.
"Okay." He said, as we got into the car.
"When we get there, we are not getting a dog. Okay?"
"Okay." Bucky answered. He still wasn't completely himself, but maybe this would help. And it was required because he did kill a bunch of people.

"No dogs." I reminded him as we entered.
We moved dog food, cleaned kennels, moved kitty litter, walked dogs, and helped fix some broken kennels. We had to work for six hours. For the last twenty minutes or so, Bucky disappeared.
When I found him he was playing with a three-legged, black and white, pit bull puppy. He looks so happy, like himself before Hydra. I just sigh when he asks if we can keep it.
   "Please, Steve?" He asked.
"Sure." I said. How was I supposed to tell him 'no'?

When we got back to the Avengers Complex, Several people looked from Bucky and the puppy to me. I glared at them. Nothing was said.
   "What's his name?" Natasha asked.
"Cap." Bucky said. Everyone stared at me again.
"Can I pet him?" Peter asked.
   "He's a pit." Bucky said.
"Pits aren't so bad." Peter said.
He held his hand out for Cap to sniff. Bucky watched as a dog with a bad rep was welcomed. Maybe getting the dog would be better for him than I thought.
   "See, he's nice." Peter said.

A few days later, Tony gave Cap a prosthetic leg. It matched Bucky's except the star on Bucky's arm was a paw print on Cap's.
Whenever we went out, Bucky brought Cap. I signed them up for puppy training. He was becoming more like himself with each training session. Soon, Cap was a certified service/ emotional support dog.
They did everything together. Cap got scraps from the table, they trained together, and Bucky hasn't had a flashback nightmare since he got Cap.
One day, after a long training session, Bucky took a nap on the couch. Cap was snuggled up to him and they were both snoring.

Pit bulls are wonderful dogs. They have a bad reputation because of bad owners. I have a pit mix and she is the sweetest thing. #banbadownersnotgooddogs. #justiceforpits
