When Carlos was 6, he was interrested in studying spiders. For his birthday, his father got him a pink footed tarantula, much to his mother's dismay. Carlos named his new friend Rosy because of her feet. The only rule was that if his mother was in the room, Rosy had to be in her habitat. There was also an unspoken rule about keeping Rosy in Carlos's room. One day, one of Carlos's friends came over. They'd heard him talk about Rosy, but assumed Rosy was a dog or a cat.
When Carlos was 10, he got a hedgehog named Sonic. He still had Rosy, but now she had a friend. His mother liked Sonic more than she liked Rosy, but she didn't say anything about Rosy. She didn't want to stop her son from learning. Sonic wasn't like most hedgehogs. He liked to he held and wanted to be with Carlos at all times. He would rather be with Carlos than in his cage.
For his 12th birthday, one of his friends gave him a Californian King snake. Carlos named him Linguine. Linguine wasn't allowed out of Carlos's room.
"But mom, he isn't harmful." Carlos would tell her.
"I don't care, I don't want to see him." She was reply.
Linguine didn't bother Rosy or Sonic. He mostly kept to himself. He liked to be draped around Carlos's neck while he was studying. One day, Carlos forgot about Linguine being on his shoulders and walking into the dining room for dinner. His mother screamed and sent him back to his room. He convinced her to let Linguine stay, but he was grounding for a month.
When Carlos was 14, Sonic died. He got an aquarium full of axolotls for Christmas. He remembered all their names. Aaron, Alex, Austin, Abraham, Adam, Arthur, Anthony, and Andrew. They were from his mother. His father wanted to get him a different breed of salamander, but remembering the incedent with Linguine, his mother thought the wierd little creatures would be better.
Rosy died when Carlos was 16. Instead of a car, he wanted a giant millipede. Begrudgingly, his mother got him one. He named it Millie. Millie had the same rules as Linguine. When Carlos didn't have Linguine around his shoulders or playing with the axolotls, Millie was crawling around on his arms.
At 17, Carlos knew he wanted to do science. He took more advanced science classes in high school. He brought home several mice that were too old to be experimented on in class. By the time he graduated, he had six mice, Lulu, Lily, Lacy, Lanie, Luna, and Lydia. He even managed to get a hold of a frog named Toad.
When Carlos started college, he drove to school every day because the dorms didn't allow pets. The mice didn't live for very long and Toad died after four years. He had been given chemicals during his time at the high school. Linguine, Millie, and the axolotls were still going strong.
Right before Carlos graduated from college, the axolotls died under mysterious circumstances. They were perfectly healthy one day, and gone the next. Carlos took them to the science lab at school and found out that they had been poisoned. His mother wouldn't go in his room because of Linguine and Millie. He looked at their food, and found that it wasn't good quality. The new recipe the company was trying was harmful to his pets.
A few days after Carlos graduated, Millie went missing. He was so upset, that his mother let him carry Linguine around the house on his shoulders. To this day, no one knows where Millie went. Linguine was getting old, but after the loss of his axolotls and Millie, that wasn't something he wanted to think about.
A week before he went to Night Vale, Linguine passed away. Carlos almost didn't go to Night Vale after the loss of his snake. His mother told him to go, that he could get another snake. His father said that he could study science at home. Carlos decided to go. He didn't want to be alone, without his pets. After Cecil found Khoshekh, Carlos found out that he was allergic to cats.
One day, Carlos was working in his lab when he got a frantic phone call from Cecil. There was a monster in the house and he needed to get home immedently. Carlos went home to find Cecil sitting on the kitchen table. When he asked where the monster was, Cecil pointed to a large rat chilling near the dishwasher. Carlos went over to the rat and gently picked it up. It made a noise before leaning its head on one of his fingers. He took the rat outside and let it go.
A few months after that, Carlos finally convinced Cecil to get a fennec fox. They were common in the desert and when one wandered into the house it wasn't that unusual... unless you didn't leave the door open. Carlos named his fox Todd because a male fox was called a tod. Todd loved to sleep on Carlos's lab coats. It didn't matter if they were clean or in the laundry bin, Todd was going to sleep on them. The only problem with Todd, was that he teleported occasionally, but no pet is perfect. This headcanon was so cute. I liked writing it and I hope you enjoy reading it. If you have a headcanon of your own, please comment down below or DM me a screenshot. I won't do dirty ones or if I'm not in the fandom. If you don't know what axolotls are, they are like salamanders, but they live in water their whole life instead of just as babies. A fennec fox is a fox native to desert regions. A Californian King snake is kind of colored like a cow (from the pictures I looked at).
