Bakugkou's POV
There was a group of villains in the center of town. I didn’t know what their quirks were, but unless one of them was impervious to fire, Eijiro and I could take them down easily. We got there and started fighting. There were five of them. One of them had superstrength, one of them could teleport, two of them could join into a bigger version. And the fifth one was high fiving the air. I was about to punch the fifth one when he high fived the air in my direction. I suddenly got really sleepy. It had been years since the incident. The incident that caused Deku to drop out of UA and become a villain. I had almost forgotten about him when I passed a ‘wanted’ poster with his face on it. He was wanted for several reasons, but the one that stood out the most was three accounts of first degree murder. The murders of Pro-Heros; Ingenium, Uravity, and Shoto. They were his friends at UA so it made sense that he would go after them first.
That poster was dated for a couple weeks ago. I passed another one that said he was wanted for six murders. He’d killed Froppy, Tsukuyomi, and Creati. This poster was for last week. He‘d killed six out of his nineteen classmates. Another poster with yesterday‘s date showed that he added Pinky, Chargebolt, Earphone Jack, and Cellophane to his body count.
I knew what he was trying to do. He was trying to lure me out of hiding. It was too dangerous for a hero to be out in costume. Wearing civvies was our best bet, but he knew who we were and all of our weaknesses. The Pro-Heros before us had retired. With All Might, they didn’t know how to deal with someone like Deku.
The only Pro-Hero that could have stopped Deku was our teacher, Eraser Head. If he still had his quirk. A right when Deku dropped out, he came back to school, saying he needed to talk to Mr. Aizawa about re-enrolling. Mr. Aizawa left the room and, not even five seconds later, Deku had stabbed both eyes out. Most of us had been willing to believe that Deku realized his mistake, but after that, he was seen as a serious threat.
To the news, I said I didn’t know why he waited so long before going after his classmates. But I did know. He wanted it to hurt more. To twist the knife. He wanted us to think it was safe and get our hero licenses. He wanted to kill Pro-Heros to prove to the world that he could. The Americans had been called, but they couldn’t do anything. On the way home, I passed a poster that hadn’t been there before. It had today‘s date. Pro-Hero Invisible Girl had gone missing. Tomorrow, when Deku killed her, they would replace this poster with a wanted poster. This was enough. Someone had to stop him.
As much as I hated to admit it, I couldn’t stop him alone. I tried to contact all of our classmates that were still alive. Aoyama didn’t answer, Koda and Sato said no, and Mineta hung up on me. The only three willing to help were Ojiro, Shoji, and Eijiro.
“We’re getting picked off one by one.” I said. “He just kidnapped Hagakure. At this rate, we’ll all be dead before the month is over.”
“Katsuki, we don’t even know where he is.” Eijiro said.
“I do.” How could I not? Being All Might‘s sidekick was all he talked about when he thought he was quirkless.
“How?” Shoji asked.
“Better question,” Ojiro said. “He’s killed several Pro-Heros. What makes you think we can do any better?”
“You signed up for this. Now, Shoji, he followed me around until…”
“You still can’t admit it.” Someone muttered under their breath.
“Whoever said that, I don’t like what you‘re implying.”
“I’m not implying anything.” Ojiro said. “If there was one person he looked up to more than All Might, it was you.”
I took a deep breath. This wasn’t our main concern.
“If you hadn’t been such a jerk all the time, we wouldn’t even be having this meeting. He would be a Pro-Hero, our classmates would be alive, and Mr. Aizawa would still have his quirk!” Ojiro shouted.
“I know you want to find Hagakure, but we can’t do that if you keep yelling at me!” I shouted back at him.
“We wouldn’t have to find Hagakure if you weren’t so stuck on being the best and admitting when you need help!”
I felt the flames on my hands. He’d gone too far. “You try being the one kidnapped by villains. Try being chained to a chair, unable to use your quirk, trying not to let them know you’re scared. Imagine how it felt when All Might and the police showed up, only to be kidnapped again! YOU WOULDN’T TRUST ANYONE EITHER!”
“Not even the people that saved you?”
“No, because it turns out that he was feeding secrets to the league of villains.”
“Ba-”
“GET OUT! IF YOU WANT TO SAVE HAGAKURE, GO FIND HER YOURSELF!”
Ojiro didn‘t move. My sleeves were on fire, but I didn’t care. I threw a fireball at him. Shoji pulled him out the door. I sank into a chair. Eijiro pulled a chair up beside me.
“Hey, it’s not your fault.”
I sighed. “Yeah, it is. I hate to admit it, but it is.”
“No, it’s not. You gotta look at when he started changing.” Eijiro said. “You’ve said several times that he started to change when he found his quirk.”
“If I hadn’t bullied him about it-”
“Katsuki, stop. It’s not your fault.” Eijiro said. “Sitting here and wallowing in self pity isn’t going to save Hagakure.”
“I know.”
“So put the fire on your sleeves out, get suited up, and let‘s find him.”
“I’m going to find him and stop him myself. I have to.”
“No, you don’t. You called us here because you needed help.”
“Yeah, and you saw how great that worked.”
“Ojiro was just upset. I’m sure he would have apologised if we saved Hagakure.”
“Have you noticed that no one says his name?” I asked, changing the subject.
“Yeah. Everyone is scared.” Eijiro said. “That’s why we have to stop him.”
“If you can say his name, you can go with me. I have to hear you say it. Deal?”
“Deal. When do we leave?”
“If you can say Deku’s name, we leave on Friday.”
I knew I was going by myself when Eijiro flinched when I said ‘Deku’.
