The gang and I in my apartment, sitting on the couch, looking at performance signups "So it says here that you have to be at 16 to perform after midnight... and you have to have a parent to preform at bars" Nate reads looking at me "What? It was 9:30, not midnight. Plus the guy thought I was 21" I tell him "and I doubt you have to be 16, Mom was our age when she first performed" I add "Technically it was a songwriters showcase, but you got a point. But still I'm sure she had Cynthia or Joe with her" Mads says "It's kinda creepy how much you know about my mom" she laughs "Been a little monster since I was 6" "Well I've been a little monster since I was born!" I joke at her as Mom comes in "What are you little monsters arguing about?" She laughs "You" Emily tells her as Ryan playfully hits her "What ya looking at?" She asks as she looks at my laptop "Performance signups?" She looks at me "Why do I have the feeling you did something I did not approve of?" "Because I did?" I tell her "We saw a dive bar after we went to Mads's and we performed. Are you mad?" Matt asks "Depends where you went. If it was the Bitter End I'm fine with it" Mom says crossing her arms "Mads lives on Rivington street..." I tell her nervously "Rivington? What? Wait... Jade Elizabeth you fucking didn't!" She yells at me "He was there wasn't he?" I nod "It was awkward, I sang 'Yoü And I'" Mom laughs "He complimented me" I tell her "I'm sorry Mom.. I should've told you I went to the Johnsons. I was just afraid of... what you might say if I did" Mom sighs "Well, I would've been disappointed, knowing that you didn't tell me you ran into your father, but I would also be happy" "Why?" I ask "Because Jade, you're a teenager, and when I was a teenager I used to do the same thing. I know what it's like to sneak into bars and perform, the adrenaline rush it gives you. I fucking loved that feeling, and that feeling was what I was chasing for so damn long, to be able to feel free, be independent and finally do things my way. I used to love the fact that the next day, when you're walking on the streets and everyone would wonder who you are. I know that you were scared to tell me, but you don't have to be. You don't have to be afraid Y'know that right Jade?" I nod "Hey Stef, can you tell us more stories of when you were a kid, like how you got started ?" Ryan asks Mom smiles "Oh, like how when I was 18 and I was dragging my keyboard around on the streets playing my music, pretending to be my own manager to get gigs, I was like-" we all cut her off "Hi, this is Lady Gaga's manager, um she is really hot right now" we all say in unison imitating her "Ok, ok I get it!" Mom yells "We've all heard all the catchphrases a million times" Emily tells her "I can retell them in my sleep that's how many times I've heard them" I say "Taylor, the kids are imitating me!" Mom yells as Taylor comes running in "Don't imitate your mom" he tells us as we laugh "Ya do realize by now that if you say 'don't do it' we're gonna do it anyway right?" Matt says "Stop telling me what I already know" Taylor tells him as I roll my eyes and we watch TV
