They broke their kiss and Ben smiled warmly at her. Seeing him smile, she couldn't help but smile in return.
She was both amazed and relieved that the Force had brought her back here with Ben, she didn't want to spend another moment in that hole.
He took her hand and gently led her out to the ledge overlooking the sea. They sat down on the stone together watching as the binary sunset painted the sky and sea a beautiful golden color.
Ben placed his hand on her back, rubbing it in slow gentle circles. He couldn't help but notice that her shirt and the cloth wrapped around her were wet. "Where did you go?" he whispered. He already knew the answer, he could feel it, they were one now and there was nothing she could keep from him, but he also sensed that she needed to talk about it.
"The dark cave," she confirmed what he feared. He had never liked the thought of her going there even before, that was why he had told her to let the past die, he knew she would go there seeking her past.
He looked at her waiting for her to continue.
"I didn't want to go, but it was the only way."
"I know," he whispered and she smiled at him.
"I didn't feel lonely this time, I could feel your presence there with me."
He nodded. "You will never be alone," he whispered.
"Neither will you."
Ben wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer to him. They enjoyed a beautiful moment of peace as they watched the twin suns set below the horizon.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Rey asked.
Ben nodded, taking her hand in his and playing with her fingers. "The binary suns symbolize balance in the Force," he spoke softly.
She smiled, intertwining her fingers with his. "Now there is balance, I only hope that it will last."
He nodded. "As long as we live it will."
"And after we die?"
"We must pass down all we know, compassion, forgiveness and love are the only things that can keep balance."
Rey nodded. "I think you were right Ben."
"About what?"
"Starting a new order, not like the Sith or the Jedi, they were both wrong."
Ben nodded. He looked out at the twin suns, they had sunk low beneath the horizon, and the sky was beginning to dim. "We should go back, it's getting dark."
She nodded, but didn't move except to snuggle closer to him. He could feel unexplainable chills all over his body and knew that it was coming from her. She was wet and cold, she could get sick if her didn't get he warm and dry soon.
"I need to get you somewhere warm and dry, it will get colder after dark and you're soaked." He removed his cape and wrapped it around her shoulders. As he did he instantly felt warmer.
Rey gratefully snuggled into the warm, dry garment. The cape was long enough that she could wrap it around her legs, which were just as cold as her arms.
Ben smirked as he watched her snuggling into his cape. He shook his head, she would probably trip if she tried to walk that way. He stood and bent down, scooping her up in his arms.
Rey let out a surprised gasp, before she wrapped her arms around his neck.
Ben kissed her cheek then carried her back down the path towards the huts.
He carried her inside one of the huts and sat her down on the edge of the cot. "I'll build a fire," he said.
She nodded and he began piling pieces of wood into the fire pit in the center of the hut. After a few moments a bright orange glow and the warmth that accompanied it filled the hut.
"Thank you," Rey said.
"Anything for you sweetheart," he replied sitting down on the cot next to her.
She leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Do you think the others are okay?" she asked after they had sat there together for a long moment.
"I hope so," he replied thinking about his mother and the children.
"If they were hurt we would have felt it." Rey said as she sensed his worries. "And we're going back in the morning."
He nodded, "we should get some sleep then."
She nodded, but he sensed that she didn't want to go to bed yet, if she could she would stay up all night sitting in front of the fire with him. But she needed rest.
"Good night, sweetheart," he whispered, placing a kiss on her forehead.
"I love you," she whispered.
"I know," he replied with a smirk, then he turned to leave.
