Chapter 45

*POV change to Shining dragon*

I was forced awake by my phone ringing.

"Yes?" I mumbled into the phone.

"El I need to talk to you about something important." Ethan sounded a bit paniced.

"Ethan what's wrong?" I quickly jumped out of bed and began to throw clean clothes on.

"Just please come to my house. I need to talk to you, but dont bring Claire." He mumbled before hanging up.

As soon as I opened my door I saw Mood standing there like she was about to knock.

"Oh uh... good morning..." I mumbled. "I've got to go somewhere..."

"I take it you read the message already?" Mood asked seeming surprised.

"What?"

I quickly went through my messages and found an email addressed to all recruits.

'All recruits after the events of last night's field training we have decided all recruits have liberties for up to 2 weeks. As long as you show up for your prescheduled training lessons and use a buddy system when leaving the main building.' I was honestly surprised quite a bit by the email. 'Liberties are as follows: lifted curfew, cafeteria hours extended, common room open 24 hours, and exercise and training rooms open 24 hours.'

"What exactly happened last night that called for this?"

"Apparently our teams was actually lucky last night." She spoke almost too calmly. "You said you have to go somewhere?" She asked changing the subject.

"Yeah my friend called and he seemed like he is having some problems." Part of the email clicked while I was talking. "But I cant go alone." I sighed.

"I'm assuming this friend is a civilian?" She asked while piecing together he issue. "Why not take Lightspeed?"

"I was told not to tell her about this." I said before sighing.

There was a moment of silence between us when Mood sighed.

"How about this? I'll drive you there and I'll close my eyes when you take off your mask and go inside. I'll wait outside for you, but you have to wear your earpiece so I can make sure you dont get into trouble." She nodded her head as she spoke like she was still planning this out. "We can sync them together so we'll be the only ones on the line. They way we can say I can say I was with you."

I went over to my desk and grabbed the earpiece from last night.

"Only if you want to of course." She mumbled.

"You're the only person I actually trust to help me with this." I smiled as I locked my door. "Thanks I really appreciate you doing this for me."

She just smiled and motioned for me to follow her to her car.

"Is it the blonde boy for the hotel night?"

"No. That one is Owen. He not home until next week."

"So a different boy?" She asked as she got into her car. "You're gonna have to tell me where to go."

"No problem."

After I had got in the car myself she began to drive. It was only about a ten minute drive so it shouldn't have been that long, but for some reason there was a lot of traffic today.

"You cringed a bit when I mentioned the blonde boy earlier." She said as if it would bother . "Are things alright between you and him?"

"Yes." I probably answered to quickly. "I dont know. I mean nothing is wrong, just confusing."

She glanced over at me for a split second.

"Owen and I have best friends since we were nine. The night we met he confessed to me and I broke his heart because I told him I'm gay. Which I thought he already knew."

I thought back to that night while Mood just silently maneuvered through the traffic.

"Its not a big deal, in the end things have to work out, right?" I mumbled to myself.

Before long we ended up at Claire and Ethan's house and for a moment we just sat in silence.

"At four we have a class we have to get to." Mood stated calmly while parking the car. "Please try not to take too long, otherwise we might get in trouble."

"Ok. I'll keep that in mind."

We synced the earpieces and I set the coms to open. Then mood did exactly as she said she would and covered her eyes so I could take my mask off.

I quickly pulled off my mask and shoved it in my pocket before exiting the car.

"Is that my sister in the car?" I looked up and saw Ethan standing in his doorway.

"No, I wouldn't bring her when I couldn't tell her why." I responded.

"Have them come in then." He shouted. "There's no need to leave them in the heat."

"I guess it's their call." I ran my hand through my hair nervously.

"Do you want me to come in?" Her voice spoke softly in my ear.

"I insist. Mom and dad aren't home so they wont know about you being a hero." He started leaning against the door frame.

"You know?" I'm sure my jaw had dropped to the ground like in a cartoon.

"Yeah. The pain meds they gave my sister after she got hurt caused her to talk a lot in her sleep. Extremely loud sleep talking."

I sighed and put on my mask. "Mood if you want to come in, he invited you."

I heard the car door open and close again before she was standing at my side.

"Why dont you guys come on in?" He motioned for us to follow him. "I dont want the neighbors spreading rumors."

I walked over to him, but when I glanced back at Mood and she seemed a bit uncomfortable with the idea.

"Its fine. I've known him for a long time too." I tried to reassure her that it was fine.

"I'm Lightspeed's twin brother." He showed off his charming smile. "If I even tried to bite she'd kick my ass many times before I could even blink."

How does he know all of this? Did Claire really talk this much in her sleep? I guess Ethan would know better than anyone about if Claire was telling the truth.

After a few seconds Mood agreed an followed us inside where we sat down on their black couch.

"Question number one. El, did you break your promise? Are you dating my sister?" Ethan asked as he sat down in a near by chair.

As soon as I heard the nickname I glared at him then looked over at Mood who seemd to be too interested in maping out her surroundings to have heard it.

"No, I wouldn't break my promise." I leaned forward and rested my elbows on my knees. "You sounded paniced this morning is something wrong?"

"Oh this was mostly going to be a lecture about daring my sister, I saw the news this morning posing more pictures of you guys." He sighed. "I also needed to check on you guys. I saw something on the news and I was worried it involved you since we cant get a hold of you like my sister."

He had a nervous smile plastered on his face as he continued explaining about a hero that got attacked at a rally.

"Am I allowed to give him my number?" I asked Mood who seemed surprised I was asking.

"If you feel it's safe to."

After a quick exchange of numbers we ended up having to go on our way back to the school so we could catch the undercover training class.
