When I opened my eyes I was in a dull grey room and I was freezing.

I slowly sat up and I saw the room was empty.

"Hello?" I asked aloud hoping for an answer.

When there was no response I went over to the door and tried to open it.

"Hello is anyone there?" I started to panic a bit.

I went to rub my hand over my eyes when I caught sight of a metal bracelet around my wrist.

"What is this?"

As soon as I placed my hand on the bracelet  a voice boomed through the room.

"Do not take that off. We finally got it to stabilize your powers."

Slowly the door opened and a woman in a lab coat walked in with a clipboard.

"You caused quite the mess. We had to take you from the hospital cause you set the room on fire."

"I did what?" I took a step back in shock.

"Yes apparently this wasnt the first time either according to your parents." She looked at me like I was some experiment that baffled her. "Do you really not remember those incidents?"

"I think I would remember setting something on fire."

"Well, they could have also hidden it from you? I guess that's an option." She said looking at the clip board.

Suddenly my dad burst into the room.

"What are you doing?" He yelled at the woman. "You said you could block off her powers!"

"I really have powers?" I questioned softly while he continued to yell.

"As of two months ago she is an adult. It us her choice if she wants the to be blocked off. It wont work if she doesnt want it because her powers are too strong." The woman spoke so calmly it was almost terrifying alone.

"She would have been willing if you hadn't said anything about them!" He continued to yell.

"Elizabeth I will give you a week to make your decision." She spoke in tone I couldnt quite figure out, but it wasnt exactly comforting. "Please dont mess with the device around your wrist until you have told me your decision."

"If I really have powers what are they?" I didnt dare look at my dad I knew he had to still be furious. "I'm guessing something about fire, but what exactly?"

"You can create fire. We assume it's only when your body thinks it's under stress, but we cant tell you much of anything cause your father wouldn't let us run any tests." She smiled at me for the first time as she gestured towards him.

"Elizabeth let's go." He grumbled as he started to leave.

"Eugene if you think of using your power on her again without her choice I will have them removed from you." I didnt see whoever the mystery person in the hall was but I could hear their threat as clear as day.

As soon as I left the room I didnt see anyone near my father just various people in lab coats.

As we continued walking I saw Captain Whirlwind and Green Voltage and I froze in my tracks. Two of my favorite superheros were 10 feet from me.

"Elizabeth I said were leaving." My father grabbed my wrist and pull me along.

Both of them looked over in our direction and Captain Whirlwind waved at me while showing off his pearly white teeth. Green Voltage seemed to have an empathetic look on his face as my father drug me out of sight.

"They just had to boost your pointless ideas of becoming a hero." He mumbled as we reached the car.

"Becoming a hero isnt pointless. Heroes..."

"Not every one with powers can actually be a hero  Elizabeth!" He shouted cutting me off. "Just because you have powers doesn't mean you can save people. You are to dangerous to do any good."

I felt something shoot through my entire being as my heart broke at his words.

"You'll be better off just letting them block off you powers." He said as we both got into the car.

"What if I choose to keep them?"

I barely even let the words pass my lips but the way he looked at me I knew he heard me.

"Elizabeth I said no. End of the discussion." He gripped the steering where to where his knuckles were white.

I felt like I would sink into my seat and disappear. I hope that I could drown in the depths of the leather and escape.

It had to be something about my powers that angered him so much.

"What are your powers?" I asked cautiously.

"Dont worry about it."

"How long have you known about..."

"6 years." He stated coldly.

It suddenly clicked. I noticed how distant he has been for quite some time, but I assumed it was because he didn't know what teenage girls liked.

We sat in silence the rest ride home.

I couldnt figure out if I'm supposed to be excited that I have powers or concerned because I have no idea what I've done with them.

"When we get home go to your room. Your mother will bring you dinner when its ready."

He pulled the car into the garage and left the car without another word.

On my way to my room I saw my mom watching a news report about the fire at school.

"What appeared to be a teenage girl rushed into the burning building and saved a student trapped by the fire, but who was this mystery teen?" The reported spoke in an over exaggerated tone to draw the attention of the viewers. "Our reporters were not able to get close enough to see the identity of the girl before she was rushed to the hospital for possible injuries. But when we arrived we were told there was no such person there."

I couldn't help but to smile at the fact there was someone covering a story about me.

"Could it be that she is a new hero being kept a secret?" The reporter smiled at the camera.

"Elizabeth I told you to go to your room." My dad said as he placed a hand on my shoulder.

I jumped at his touch and quickly nodded and walked to my room.

I immediately threw myself onto my bed and looked up at the stick on stars I put up when I was younger.
