"Shining I would love to, but give me some time to think it through."
'I don't think that's a good sign.'
She seemed genuinely conflicted as she gave me her response.
"I can't jump into something big like this and hope things will go well."
"I understand." I sighed and turned around. "Can you unzip me?"
She silently nodded before unzipping me and leaving me alone.
I couldn't stand the suffocating silence that filled the small space. It was forcing me to think of every way her words could mean anything else.
I changed as quickly as I could without causing damage to the dress.
"Do you need to get a dress?"
"No, I got one the other day."
"Alright then let's pay for this and head back." I said immediately as I left the changing room.
"You will also need these." Mood held up a pair of black heels.
I sighed and nodded my head.
"Ok. Let's go."
We silently went to the front counter where they made a few adjustments that Mood instructed the seamstress about. Afterwards I paid for the dress and she drove us back to base.
"You're being really quiet, are you upset?" Mood asked quietly after parking the car.
"Honestly?" I asked and looked over at her.
She nodded her head cautiously like she already knew my answer.
"I am a little upset, but I understand what you're saying." I leaned as far as I could into the seat. "I know I jump into a lot things head first, but if I spent time thinking about everything that could go wrong I'd never get anything done."
She didn't say anything just gripped the steering wheel like she was still driving.
"Mood take your time with your answer, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."
As if the whole universe knew we in the middle of an important conversation her phone began to go haywire with variousnotifiaction noises. I had a feeling that is was going to be a lot of private conversations so I decided leave her to them.
"If you need help I'll be inside." I smiled at her.
I got out of the car and grabbed the dress before heading inside.
"Shining!" Claire ran up to me and jumped onto my back. "What did you get?"
"My outfit for the gala."
"Can I see?" She tried to open the dress bag but I had my hand covering the zipper.
"Nope you have to wait." I held onto the dress tighter. "No one gets to see it until the day of."
"You're no fun." She pouted and sulked away from me.
"I'm fine with that." I shouted before taking the quickest path I knew to my dorm.
I couldn't let her find out about the dress before the gala, because then that's all I'll hear about until then. Sadly that was a majority of what I was asked until Thursday.
"Are you going to tell me what you're wearing?" Claire groaned as she laid on my bed.
"No, you'll see it tomorrow. Now go get ready for the interview." I groaned at her.
I was trying to get dressed myself and she wasn't helping any.
"Come on Elizabeth." She groaned once again.
"Are you really grasping at those straws right now?" I laughed and opened my door for her. "Go get dressed we leave in twenty."
I finished putting on a simple black and white suit, well minus a tie.
As I was about to leave my room there was a knock at my door.
"Steel?"
"I need help. I want to impress a girl tomorrow night."
"Ok..." I wasn't sure why he went to me out of everyone possible.
"I tried asking a few guys and I know what they said doesnt work." He began to ramble and I really didnt have time for this. "So I thought about who's good with girls and I remembered about you."
I'm not sure if that was an attempt at flattery or not.
"I wouldn't say I'm..."
"Please you're my last hope." He gave me some look which I assumed was an attempt at puppy dog eyes.
"Fine, but dont make that face anymore." I sighed.
"Thank you so much. I..."
"Meet me in three hours and I'll try to help you." I walked out of my room and closed the door. "Right now I have an interview to get to."
I walked over to Claire's room and knocked, but for someone who always feels the need to go fast she sure was taking her time.
"Hey we need to leave." I shouted through the door.
"Alright!" She quickly through the door open and beamed at me. "Let's go."
She didn't wait for anything and drug me to the location of our interview. Even with her speed we barely made it to where we needed to wait before being called on stage.
Just by the set up alone this felt more like something for a TV show than an interview.
"Ladies and gentlemen coming in at number thirteen on the Miss list. Her hearts already claimed and she'll break your heart without realizing it, Shining dragon! And welcome her girlfriend Lightspeed."
"Do people really think I'm a heart breaker?" I whispered to Claire.
"Yes."
How do they think that I'm a heartbreaker? I've barely even interacted with anyone.
"Go on you lovebirds." The stage hand began to push us from behind the curtain.
Ok they only pushed me, Claire had no problem walking on stage.
"Why do they think we're dating?" I whispered to her, but I didn't receive a response.
When we got into the spotlights the audience began to vigorously cheer.
I glanced at Claire and she was eating up the attention.
"How are you lovely ladies today?" We were guided over to sit on a couch.
I could already tell this was going to be a long interview.
