To say the tests got any easier would be a lie.
They locked me in a cold chamber, tried seeing how long until my flames went out without oxygen, temperature testing and more.
By the time I was done with the various test the school day was almost over and I was exhausted.
Doctor Zander had me sitting on the stool in his office again while two wires where hooked into the bracelet, or PCR as he called it.
"It should be properly calibrated now." He smiled at me as he disconnected the wires.
I wasn't fully surprised when i was guided out of the room that Claire was waiting for me there.
"Ready to head home?" I was thrown off by how relaxed she was. "I'm sure you must be tired."
"Wait you knew about the testing?" I grabbed her shirt and I noticed she was wearing a yellow shirt similar to mine.
"Your super name has been added to the training list as well as a picture of you with your mask on." She seemed surprised that I was confused.
"Wait what's my super name?"
"Oh. The media gave you one. Someone apparently had a bury picture of you coming out of the window and it seems everyone agreed on what it looked like." She rambled on about the whole story as she pulled out her phone to pull up the news article. "They're calling you The Shining Dragon."
I took her phone and looked at the article. Sure enough the image almost looked like a chinese dragon made of fire was flying towards the ground.
"Wow..." I froze looking at the phone.
"Are you good?" She sounded concerned.
"I have a superhero name!" Any trace of exhaustion left my body and was quickly filled with excitement. "We need to celebrate." I froze and looked Claire in the eye as I handed her back her phone.
"Tonight at the hang out?" She smirked. "We can just tell the boys were celebrating the end of school since today's the last day."
"Wait what?" I stopped our celebration for a second. "I thought there were two more days."
"Because of the fire they are ending the year for students to heal from the trauma." She said in quotations. "Really it's because there are going to be some special guests spending the summer here while summer training is going on and they want the campus cleared."
"Who..."
"Its beyond my security clearance." She shrugged her shoulders. "I just know I'm not allowed to talk to anyone who's not wearing a colored recruit shirt."
She stopped and looked at my shirt for a moment.
"Umm... your shirt color isnt the greatest." She bit her lip. "They are organized from most to least dangerous, and black is the most dangerous and uncontrollable..."
"What is yellow mean?" I asked as I referred to her shirt.
"Moderate danger, under control." She smiled wearily at me. "They can change over time though after you gain more control over your powers."
"You and the other girl on our training list have high risk powers, but shes a red instead of a black." Claire said as she forced me into the elevator that was also a closet so we could leave.
She took he mask off and I followed he actions before putting my flannel back on.
We didnt talk about powers and such after leaving the closet, but we did get a few looks from a few boys as we left the closet together.
I had no idea why she was still dragging me with her until we got to the cafeteria and Ethan and Owen were standing near a statue of a lion.
"See I told you I could find her." Claire beamed. "She was doing testing to be put into advanced courses next year." Claire nudged me in my side after she spoke.
"Claire I was going to tell them after I got the results back." I groaned acting like I was upset.
"Why am I not surprised, our El is a genius." Ethan quickly wrapped his arm around my shoulder and for a slipt second Owen scowled at him before acting happy.
"I'd say tonight calls for a double celebration. One for our brilliant Elizabeth and two for senior year!" Claire cheered and some people in the distance cheered as well. "I say we have a party at the hang out."
"You mean as in a party with large groups of people and not just us goofing off all night right?" Owen asked cautiously, but I couldnt tell which one he was hoping was the answer.
"Owen lighten up. People aren't so bad." Ethan moved his arm from my shoulders and grabbed his backpack. "Who knows maybe you'll finally kiss a girl."
"Hey!" Owen's voice cracked as he tried to rebuttal the statement.
"We all know dude." I added with a soft chuckle. "It's nothing to be ashamed of. It's actually kinda adorable."
His face became bright red before he began to pout. I looked over at Claire and she was also blushing at our conversation.
"I think I'm currently grounded so I'm gonna have to sneak out if I want to go." I decided to change the topic back to the part to spare them from losing all blood to their faces.
"What are you grounded for this time?"
"I got into and argument with my dad. No biggie." I mean that's not technically a lie.
Owen and Ethan tried to probe me for more details until Claire saw another group of her friends and forced us to go with her to invite them to the party she was planning last minute.
If there is one thing I've learned being friends with her is sometimes her energy works well with last minute projects. Even more so when she's excited about them.
