After the fight the other night, the news was constantly talking about Hydron getting hurt and about they mystery girl that I was with. I hadn't seen the cameras around us when Mood took the motorcycle, but I honestly couldn't be surprised.
I was holding the pill bottle I was given that night in my hand. All it said on the bottle was, 'Take one to increase abilities, take more as needed.' There was not a name on the bottle to even find out what these pills were.
When I told Mood about the pills, she seemed worried, and she instructed me not to take any more of them until she confirmed they were safe, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about it. They made me feel stronger than I have ever been, and I didn't feel exhausted or any pain when I took them.
I was lost in my thoughts. When I heard someone knocking on my door. I shoved the pill bottle into my pocket before going to answer the door.
I was a little surprised when I saw Mood looking concerned when I opened the door.
"I gave you a key. You don't have to knock." I teased as I moved to let her inside.
"Someone in the training facility saw your dance the other night." Mood spoke like she was breaking bad news to me.
"Ok."
"And it turns out he is related to someone higher up and showed it to that person, and now the higher ups are talking about you wanting to do a ballet."
"No." I instantly spoke before by brain had fully processed that it was the higher-ups asking.
"I was just informed they plan on asking you tonight at the interview with Hydron."
"I can't do a show even if I wanted to. I danced for maybe ten minutes the other night, the whole performance can be up to three hours." I sighed and threw myself onto my couch. "I don't think my foot would be able to hold out that long."
"Firefly, I'm not going to force you."
She carefully lifted my head and sat down and placed my head in her lap.
"I was just letting you know what's going on." She said while running her fingers through my hair.
"They must be this person I already told no to at least seven times." I sighed again and pulled out my phone.
"Wait, they've already asked you?"
"Yeah, and from the sounds of it, they want to ask me in front of a large crowd of people, so I can't say no." I sighed.
"I wouldn't put it past them." She seemed annoyed. "When did they first ask you?"
"During the party we went to." I said as I passed her my phone. "I noticed it after responding to the immediate help call."
She began to carefully read through the messages.
"Also, Hydron is probably going to try to influence people to beg me even more." I groaned. "You'd think after saving him multiple times the other night, he'd be nicer to me."
"He's too full of himself to even see you saved him. He claimed it was all part of the plan." She sounded very monotone while she read through the messages.
"He didn't even have a plan. That was all me thinking on my feet." I said while sitting up.
"I know." She softly chuckled.
I wasn't sure if I was the only backup called in or if I was the only person who answered.
"I don't think I had ever seen Hydron look scared before that night."
"To be fair, his powers are practically useless against Frostbite," Mood said after passing me my phone. "And she did ambush his entire team."
"Something doesn't add up to me." I said as I pulled out the pill bottle. "Why did Hydron have these to give me when they didn't know that they needed my help until after the ambush?" I put the bottle down on my coffee table. "Couldn't they have just handed them to you since you are still keeping an eye on me?"
She looked as if she was also wondering that herself. "I don't think they are safe for you to take, but I was told after your adrenaline stunt they formulated a few variations to assist you with increasing your power levels and stamina."
"I won't lie they made me feel stronger, and I was able to clearly focus on the fight and... protecting Hydron." I felt like cringing at the last part.
"It doesn't feel right still. There has to be some sort of catch to it." She sighed and grabbed the bottle. "Please don't take any more of these."
"I understand that, but I can't promise not to take them." She sighed at my response. "My powers aren't strong enough, and I lose energy just from using my sheild too many times. Last night, I felt like I could use it as many times as I wanted."
She handed me back the bottle with concernriddling her face. "Your powers are already strong. If you really feel they are necessary, then at least promise me you will only take them if you absolutely need to."
It felt like she had more she wanted to say when her phone started to ring. While she answered her phone, I put the bottle on my coffee table again and got up to get ready for the interview I had later.
"So that call said Hydron has something he wants to give you." Mood sounded more concerned about this than the pills. "I was told it was drop off at my room on base and that he wants you to wear it to the interview."
"Did he say what it was?"
"It was the governor who informed me." She said calmly.
