Shining Heroes

Chapter 92

After we were welcomed back inside we sat back down on their couch and explained what we had discussed. To my surprise they were fine with my decision and we agreed to meet up again in a few days to discuss her options more.

While her parents agreed with us, but Kit seemed a little bummed that a decision hadn't been made yet.

"Kit, don't worry one way or another I will make sure you get trained to be a hero." I said before we got ready to head off to our graduation.

"You promise?" She held out her pinky for me to make a promise to her.

I cautiously linked our pinkies together to make the promise.

"Of course. You've got the heart of a hero Kit and once you learn more about your powers you'll make a great hero." I said while keeping out pinkies linked.

Immediately after we rushed off to Cityhall and she decided to park behind the buidling.

"We've got some time to spare if you want to talk before we go in." She spoke like I was hiding something.

"Actually there is something that has been bothering me all day," I uncomfortably turned in the seat to better face her. "You were about to say something this morning, but then your phone went off and you changed your mind."

She softly chuckled beofre leaning over and gently kissing my cheek.

"I'm afraid that's a conversation we dont have time for right now Firefly." She was smiling as she seemed to be examining my face. "Why dont we talk about that later after everything is handled?"

"That will just make me worry about it even more." I groaned and fixed how I was sitting in the seat.

"I promise it's a conversation worth having, but dont stress yourself over it too much." She looked at the clock and took a slow and steady breath. "Are you ready? Today is the official start of your dream of being a hero."

"Honestly I'm nervous and excited." I said as I tried to steady my breathing like she had.

"Its now or never."

With those words we both left the car and headed towards the building. We slowly walked into the building but immediately we were bombarded with various people informing us of things from the lights to when we starts. Thankfully the governor found us and waved everyone away.

"Ladies you made it with time to spare." The governor smiled at us. "I know we briefly met before when we talked about my son Hydron, but I think I failed to have introduced myself."

He smiled at us like he was already infront of a camera so I couldn't help but glance around for one.

"Governor Tedesco." He said with a smile that was almost identical to Hydron's annoying one.

I quickly shook his hand before he turned to Mood.

"Its always a pleasure to see you dear." He grabbed her hand like he was about to shake it but instead he kissed her knuckles before he turned away from us. "Sorry to leave I've got to talk to the press before the ceremony."

"I didn't realize you had talk to him before." Mood whispered after the man walked away.

When I looked over at her I saw her discreetly sanitizing her hands.

"Yeah I may have ran into him on base after you left for one of your meetings."

She immediately turned to face me.

"Did he want anything?"

I should just tell her the truth. It's not like anything bad happened.

"Well he warned me about messing with his family, but after asking around I found out he doesnt have any powers. I didn't know until then sometimes powers skip a generation."

"Sorry to interrupt. Melodic mood you already know what's going on, but Shining dragon I need to brief you." A short red headed man said as he stood infront of us. "Please follow me."

"Shining dragon!" I heard someone yell from off to the side.

I glanced over and Mood had stopped them from getting over to me, by stepping in her path.

"I'm sorry, she's being briefed for the graduation, is there something I can pass on?"

I turned to face the man again while they continued to talk.

"I was just going to inform her about the..." the person's words faded out before they said anything more.

"No its fine. She already knows about it." Mood responded before the man guided me away into a quiet room.

"Shining dragon after the graduation there will be a press conference. It is recommended that you dont go, but if for some reason you feel as if you have to go let Melodic mood answer the questions unless you are asked something directly."

"Why is that?"

"I've learned not to ask questions and just do as I'm told." He muttered. "I suggest you do the same."

I couldn't help but just stare at him after he gave me that harsh advice.

"Come on you've got to get in place he's about announce you both." He said as he began to shoved me towards a small crowd where Mood was standing patiently.

She seemed to be listening to the crowd of people around her, but I could tell from the fake smile she was wearing that she was wishing to be anywhere away from them.

I was about to say something to her, but I was quickly pushed towards the door way instead of towards the group like I had thought.

"Wait here and face the door." The man ordered before walking off.

Through the door I could hear the muffled cheers of the crowds outside.

"Did the door do something to you?" Mood whispered softly in my ear causing me to jump.

As soon as I turned to face her I saw a soft assumed smiled gracing her face.

"Good you're both ready." The man said before I could attempt speaking again.

He opened the door wide enough for us to clearly hear Governor Tedesco speaking to the crowd.

"Ladies and gentlemen I'd like to introduce you to Gergan City's newest heroes Melodic mood and Shining dragon."

Before we could react and walk out the door ourselves the man pushed us out the door and onto a stage infront of hundreds of people. The man didn't follow us onto the stage but there were two clearly marked places for us to stand in on opposite sides of the governor.

"These two lovely ladies are the newest breed of hero. Strong, fearless and devoted, but most importantly ready to face whatever those villains have to throw at them."

I dont remember a ceremony being done for any new heroes. I remember interviews being done for new heroes, but never something like this. Why did they start doing them now?

"In the past our ancestors suffered from a great war and thousands died when their enemies dropped a bomb on their homes."

While the governor was giving his speech about the history of the heroes I found myself zoning out while looking into the crowd.

I know I probably should have been listening the speech being given, but my mind was driving me back to whatever Mood was wanting to say. It has to be serious if she is wanting to make sure we have it, but she said not to stress over it.

I glanced over at her for a second and I couldn't tell if she was focused on the speech or if he mind was elsewhere like mine.

I wish there was a way for me to find out what she was wanting to talk about now so I could ease my mind atleast a little.

"Today we celebrate these two young adults who are choosing to take the brave step from civilians to defenders of the place we call home." Somehow I managed to regain focus just as Governor Tedesco began to finish up his speech. "Ladies and gentlemen give a hand and welcome your newest heroes."

The applause of the crowd almost sounded as loud as thunder during a storm. As the applause and cheering grew louder every worry seemed to fade and was relaced with pride.

"Now inside there will be a press conference for those of you who have any questions for these new heroes."
