For a second I thought my heart was going to stop. I looked around the house and couldn't tell someone had been living there.
"This cant be right..."
"Shining..."
"They wouldn't just up and leave!" I ran to my parents bedroom.
The room was empty, even my father's safe was gone.
I turned to see Melodic mood standing in the doorway of the room.
"Shining..." She started before I pushed pasted her.
I ran into my room and all of the furniture was still there like it had been forgotten. While most of the posters and drawings in my room was torn from the walls.
My legs felt like they were made of lead as I walked over and picked up one of the tattered posters.
"This cant be real."
I could hear her slowly walking around the room.
Suddenly the power cut out and the only light in the room was the glowing stars on my ceiling and the occasional lightning flashing through the window.
After a few minutes of standing in the darkness Melodic mood grabbed my wrist and pulled me into the closet.
She let me go and quietly closed the door.
"What are you..." she pushed me against the wall and covered my mouth with her free hand.
She slowly forced me to shift further back into the closet behind a bunch of jackets.
"Are you sure she's are on her way here?" Suddenly a man's voice was in my room.
"The kid said she was already headed here." The other voice was muffled but obviously a higher pitch than the first. "She apparently got knocked around a bit today. So I'll take one of the kids with me and check near the school. You stay here with the other incase she shows up."
Her hand tightened over my mouth as footsteps got closer to the closet while the front door slammed shut.
"What is with this kid?" He mumbled. "She practically worshiped these heroes."
I could hear the sound of paper being shredded.
"Those heroes are skum." The man growled.
I thought my heart beat was heavy before but now the man in my room had to hear it.
"Hey kid keep an eye out." After he yelled I could hear the man jump onto my bed.
"Great..." Melodic mood sighed.
After a short while she lowered her hand and took a step back.
"Is there another way out of here without the front door?" She barely spoke at a whisper.
"The window."
"Cover your ears." She whispered.
Not that she could see it, but I nodded my head and did as she said.
She slowly opened the door and light filled the closet.
I could see her lips moving as she sang. From the way her lips flowed from word to word she had to be singing a lullaby.
She slowly tiptoed over to me and lowered my hands.
"Let's get going."
I looked at the jackets that remained in my closet. I grabbed a dark purple and black jacket off its hanger.
When I stepped out of the closet I saw a huge bearded man passed out on my bed. The sight alone made me uncomfortable.
"Here." I tossed the jacket at her while staring at the man.
She quickly out the jacket on as I went over to the window.
As I was about to climb out the window I saw one of my glow stars laying in the floor.
I grabbed the star and jumped out the window. Water splashed around me when I landed.
"Careful it's muddy." I warned before she followed my actions.
Immediately after she met me outside and pulled out her phone.
"It looks like we aren't going to be able to get back on base until tomorrow." She sighed and put the phone into her pocket. "The base is on lockdown."
She peaked around my house and down the street.
"We need to move now." She grabbed my wrist and began to drag me down the street away from the school.
"Did they go to the school?"
"Yes, but the base is on lock down because of a protest gathering." She pulled me in between a few houses. "They are worried the villains are going to spark a riot."
"I dont understand how those people are so willing to support people so evil."
At some point we arrived at a hotel and she pulled me inside. A man froze when he looked at my mask.
"Code red?" The man at the desk asked us.
"Yes." She answered.
"We only have one room available at the moment." He pulled out a key card as he spoke. "I will have a medkit sent up to your room immediately."
"Thank you." She took the card and pulled me along.
The hotel was a lot nicer than one I would ever pick for myself. As my heart rate began to calm down everything began to set in.
Before I knew it she guided me into a room and made me sit down on the bed.
"You should have atleast bandaged your head." She got onto me like I was a child.
"I cleaned the area." I looked at her then back at my shoes that were caked with mud. "I just thought this was more important."
There was a soft knock on the door and she quickly answered it.
"Thank you." I could hear her smiling as she spoke.
Who ever was at the door tried to continue having a conversation, before she apologized and closed the door on them.
"Ok let's get you bandaged up and you can rest." She removed her wig and set it down next to the medkit.
She began rummaging through the medkit.
"I can bandage myself up you know."
"Well you didn't the first time." She said before kneeling infront of me with a few bandages. "Please hold still."
