The Next Day...

I woke up the next day back in my own bed. Jack and I would've stayed the night at the treehouse but he kept complaining that he would get tempted to do stuff if we stayed together for the night so we went back to our own houses.

Anyway, today was the day Alena and I were going to have to be meeting up to work on our assignment. I could not dread it even more. She was one of my worst enemies and spending time with her was the last thing I wanted.

But I also didn't want to ruin my grade. So I had to set aside my feelings of hatred for these next three week, just so I could get a good grade because that's what mattered the most.

So I got out of bed and went to my closet to get dressed. My limp seemed a tiny bit better today so that was good at least. I got dressed in a light green coloured cropped tank top with buttons going down the middle and a cream coloured cardigan on top as well as grey sweat shorts. I put my hair in a messy bun, brushed my teeth, then went to school with Jack.

That Evening...

Today, my teacher didn't let anyone work on their assignment during class. It made things so much worse that we didn't even have any class time to work on because that meant I had to spend more after school time with Alena.

But anyway, now it was time to meet up with Alena. We planned to meet at the library. I didn't change my clothes but I did pack a smaller backpack with everything I needed. After that, I headed outside.

I had to drive my dad's car now since I still didn't have my car. So I got in there and drove to the library.

I got there after a ten minute drive.

I walked in there and began walking around to find Alena. I knew she was here already because she texted me two minutes ago, saying she just got there. The ONLY reason I had her number was because of this assignment.

I walked around to notice the library was about half full which made sense because it was currently around 7 pm.

I found Alena sitting at a table big enough to fit four people. She was on her laptop. I walked over to the table but she looked up at me before I could get there.

"You fucked up your knee too..?" Alena asked me, raising an eyebrow just as I got to the table. She must've noticed my limp and knee brace. "Oh, I'm fine. Thanks for asking." I said sarcastically with a fake smile before rolling my eyes as I sat across from her.

"Whatever, just start doing your work so I can leave sooner.." She mumbled, looking back down at her laptop. "Well can I have the assignment sheet?" I said, raising a brow. We still only had one assignment sheet and Alena was keeping it. "Ugh!" Alena groaned loudly, rolling her eyes before leaning down to her backpack. She grabbed the sheet from her bag and gave it to me.

I looked over my first section that I had to do before reaching into my backpack and pulling out my laptop. I was going to be typing my sections out but since our teacher wanted us to hand everything in on paper written by hand, I was going to be giving all my work to Alena so she could write it out for me as I did it.

So we spent about an hour and a half there, working non-stop. The only time we talked to each other was when we wanted to ask the other person a question or we needed to clarify something.

By the time we stopped working, both of us finished our first sections of work.

I had to admit, I was very surprised at how on-task Alena was the entire time. I didn't see her pick up her phone even once. She seemed to be even more concentrated than me. I would've never pegged her to be the school-smart type of person, considering her shitty personality.

"So.. you're pretty serious about your grades, huh?" I asked Alena as we put our things away, preparing to leave. I was genuinely intrigued about this. "Yeah. My grades are the most important thing to me right now." She told me, not even looking up at me as she continued to pack her bag.

"Is there a particular reason or just 'cause?" I asked her, leaning back in my seat and crossing my arms. She looked up at me. "Why do you care so much?" She asked me, her eyebrows furrowing as she sat up properly in her seat. "Just because I would never think you'd care this much. I actually admire it." I shrugged, a tiny smile on my face.

"You know, just 'cause I'm popular and what not, doesn't mean I don't care about my grades. I have a whole future planned out for myself." Alena told me, crossing her arms. "Of course, I know. What do you want to do in the future then?" I asked her curiously.

"It's always been my dream to be a lawyer. And I know it sounds wild and almost impossible for someone like me to do, but my goal is to study law abroad in.. Harvard." She seemed a bit nervous as she told me the last part. My eyes widened and I sat up in my seat. I was about to say something but she spoke up. "But nobody thinks I could do it. My parents act like they believe in me but I could tell they think I don't have a chance." She sounded irritated as she told me this, putting her hand in her hand.

Why was I actually kind of feeling bad for her? This was weird...

"Well I mean.. those people aren't the ones who are working towards it.. that's you. So why give them the right to let you believe you can't do it?" Before I knew it I was attempting to comfort her. "Usually I don't 'cause I mean I am pretty self confident. But it just gets stressful sometimes, you know?" She sighed. "Yeah, that's normal. But relax, give yourself a break. We still have another whole year of high school after this semester." I told her, smiling. "Yeah, I forget that sometimes.." She chuckled.

"What kind of grades did you get last semester anyway?" I asked her. "All 90's." She told me, smiling. "See! What are you so stressed about then?" I said to her while laughing. She chuckled as well. "Well it's not like it was easy to get those marks.." She reminded me, still chuckling a little bit.

"Well, if it means anything, I definitely believe you could get into Harvard." I shrugged, smiling. "Thanks, I guess." She smiled as well.

"Anyway, uh.. we should get going, it's getting late.." Alena said. I checked my watch and saw it was around 8:45. "Oh, wow. Yeah, we should." I said, quickly zipping up my backpack before standing up. She stood up as well and we put our backpacks on.

We began waking but Alena stopped and spoke up soon after.

"By the way, how'd you end up hurting your wrist and knee?" Alena asked me, looking down at my wrist and knee before looking back up at my eyes. "I was.. in a car accident. Because of a drunk driver." I told her. Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped.

"Really?! Are you ok now?" She asked me, sounding shocked. "Yeah, I'm fine now. I had surgery and everything so I'm just waiting for these to heal." I said, referring to my knee and wrist. "Well, best of luck with that." She chuckled. "Thanks." I chuckled as well.

After that, we walked out to the parking lot together. And from there, we parted ways.

As I drove home, I realized how differently that went from how I thought it'd go. Well I mean, up until after we finished working, everything was as I thought it'd go. But after that, was truly shocking to me as I thought back at it.

Alena and I actually.. got along! Never in a million years did I think I'd ever get along with one of them. And I didn't know how I felt about this honestly...

I guess we'd just have to see what this led to...
