We had finally made it to Texas after a long drive. I was currently resting my head on Buck's shoulder because it was comfortable. But at least now I was ready to fight some fires. Actually I need to correct myself, I was down as a paramedic, I wasn't helping with the fires here.

"Buck. Wake up. We're here." Hen said making Buck grunt as he woke up.

"I hope you had a nice sleep." I said to him before we got out.

"Oh, we are?" Buck asked not believing we were in Texas. "Ooh! What's up with the air?" He asked, I shook my head. This wasn't California anymore.

"Wildfire, remember? That's why we're here." Hen said as the two of us were waiting to get out the truck.

"I mean the way it feels. Like getting slapped with a wet towel." Buck said to us, that would be something known as humidity.

"It's called humidity. Welcome to Texas, Buck." Eddie said all cheery. Once we all got out we headed to the meeting point.

"I'm Deputy Chief De Leon of the San Angelo Fire Department, acting incident commander. For those of you who just joining the party, welcome." De Leon said to us I kept seeing Buck stare at someone out the corner of my eye.

"Buck, stop staring." Hen said catching him out.

"You don't need to stare down the other firefighters." I said to him while putting my hand on his shoulder.

"I'm not staring." He said to us.

"You're staring." Eddie said to us.

"I want to introduce my operations section Chief, Captain Owen Strand out of Austin." De Leon said before Strand took his spot. I'd met Captain Strand before but many years ago in New York.

"The thing we were praying wouldn't happen has happened. The wind has shifted. The fire's now on collision course with city of San Angelo. There's a possibility of weather coming in, but we can't rely on it, and we won't. We have one last shot to turn the tide. Here. On Copper Ridge. We cut a containment line here, and we can stop this beast in its tracks. I know you're exhausted. A lot of you haven't had more than a couple hours' sleep in days. But on behalf of the city of San Angelo and their 120,000 souls, we're gonna get you up on that fire line and you are gonna cut like hell. Good luck. Stay safe." Strand said to us, that was a great speech.

"Buck. Seriously? Please don't make me report you to HR." Hen said to Buck, I looked and saw he was still staring.

"No, no, I swear I know her from somewhere. It's killing me." Buck said to us, I looked at him.

"You've probably seen someone that looks like her." I said to him with a smile.

"Captain!" I heard someone shout as Hen and I looked at each other. We then went to get a drink and took a tour of the unit we'd be working at before heading to the truck. Buck sighed.

"Uh, where have you been?" Buck asked us.

"Getting coffee." I said while raising my cup at him.

"Took a tour of the medical unit. Where's Eddie?" Hen asked him, I realized that he wasn't here.

"I don't know. You guys abandoned me. Also, why did we drive these trucks all the way from LA just to park 'em?" He asked us, I felt bad for abandoning him.

"I'm sorry I left you." I said to him, he took my coffee and took drank some of it.

"It's ok, you don't need to worry about it." He said to me before handing me my coffee back.

"Only way up to that fire line is by foot. Trucks go into the motor pool. Commander De Leon will use them as he sees fit. That's how it works, Buck." Hen said as she was fixing her shoe.
