Ciaran walked the streets of the city with a basket in his hand.
Eyes occasionally darted in his way as it did not help that the man had a towering height that made him stand out from the rest of the population.
"Young man! What are you looking for?" The vampire turned his head to the source of the voice and he saw a middle-aged man smiling widely behind a cart that displayed a variety of foods. He paused for a few seconds before making his way to the man who called him and stopping directly right in front of the cart. His eyes scanned the food on display until it landed on what looked like a food box.
"How much for this?" He inquired and the latter was stunned for a second because of how deep Ciaran's voice was.
"Two for a silver coin!" the merchant's smile immediately went back on his face because he knew he'd make another sale. "What's inside the box?"
"It's steamed vegetables with rice rolled in sea grass. It's a popular food amongst nobles!" Ciaran hummed as he was staring intently at the boxed food. His mind was quite indecisive because there were a lot of options to choose from. There were literally seas of food stalls and carts that roamed the capital's streets and every single one looks promising.
The merchant, on the other hand, kept his business smile even though he saw the doubtful look on Ciaran's face. "I promise you will like it a lot, my lord!" He gleamed in fake joy and Ciaran looked at him.
"My lord?"
"H-Huh?" The man sweatdropped because he thought that the tall young man carrying a basket was a noble. There was no way a commoner would look like that.
"I'm just a regular citizen. You don't have to call me that," Ciaran addressed and the merchant heaved a relieved sigh internally even though it wasn't what he expected. It was better than wrongly addressing a high-ranking noble or even a part of the royal family.
"Well, you sure are the kind of commoner that is one of a kind. You are tall and you have the face to pair with it. A lot of people would mistaken you for a noble or even a royal!" He complimented with a grin and Ciaran just stared at the boxes again ignoring the merchant who was giving him the fake smiles and compliments.
"You can buy just one for forty copper coins, young man if you cannot buy-"
"I'll take two boxes."
Stunned, the merchant stiffened in his spot for a moment but he did not dwell on it. Commoners usually grimace at a price of one silver coin for two food boxes but they weren't his target audience. He usually sold his items to the nobles who would gladly spend their fortune on something that would make them included and relevant in society.
What he did not expect was for a commoner like this one in front of him to waste good money that could buy him bread or other food that are far worth it.
Regardless, he shook his head and took two food boxes from the display and as he was about to wrap it, Ciaran chimed in. "Please make it look presentable."
"Aren't you the one who's going to eat this?"
"I'm going to share it my wife."
"Oh... Okay..." the merchant shrugged his shoulders again as he placed one food box on top of the other and used a thinly cut portion coconut tree leaves to tie the boxes and secure them together.
While tying, the merchant took a peek at Ciaran again and he saw that the young man was staring at his craft with the boxes as if he was mesmerized by it.
'It's no surprise this young man has a wife considering he looks like that. If he were a noble, his face would be the death of all the ladies,' he remarked inside his mind and he gave the boxes to Ciaran who also stored it inside his basket.
