A/N: Sorry in advance for the long chapter. I fucked up the chapter plans weeks ago when I realised I didn't include the second special chapter, causing me to end up with one too many, and now I've got to live with the consequences of my actions 🤦‍♀️

'Sang, I don't think he's coming home,' Hongjoong said as he noticed the blonde sitting up in his window seat, wearing one of his brother's hoodies and hugging his pillow to his chest. He was staring out the window at some place far away, and the look of devastation in just the way he held himself was so obvious.

He watched the blonde turn a little, glancing back towards him, before his gaze dropped, and he looked back out the window.

He's not coping...

Sighing, he tossed his damp towel through his bedroom door to deal with later, and ventured into Yeosang's room, turning on his lamp on his way past so that they were not moping in the dark.

Sitting down opposite the blonde, he leant back against the window and let his eyes fall upon Yeosang.

There was something wrong. He could tell. And he knew what it was, too. He was upset, because after Wooyoung had spent the day in his room diligently studying or doing something, his brother had had a moment of sudden decision making, abruptly pulling on his coat, grabbing his keys, and leaving them with but a brisk hug and a look of determination on his face as he ventured out of the flat into the afternoon light.

It was now eleven.

And so obviously, he knew what was wrong.

But he would be lying, if he didn't admit that he thought on top of that, something else, was wrong...

They weren't children anymore. They weren't even really young adults. They had lived into their independence, and as time had gone by, they had grown and changed so much over the years, through all of the hardships they had faced...

But instead of growing into their new roles, and letting the past slip free...

It seemed Yeosang was holding on, tighter with every day that passed...

Something was wrong...

And as he looked at the person he had known since they were babies—before they had even learned to speak...

All he could see, was the way pain was lacing every one of his features, not able to cope with his brother's absence—a use of the independence he had slowly been growing into...

Leaving Yeosang behind, clutching on tighter than ever.

Letting out a soft breath, he glanced out the window to see what he was staring at—nothing of interest, apparently.

'Sang, he needs to spend time with his boyfriend,' he said gently, keeping his voice deliberately calm and tender, and noting the way his words still seemed to hurt. 'They need to learn to be together through the hard times, just like we did,' he said softly. 'You know better than anyone how much adjustment there is.'
