Nabi looked adorable in her cute little swimsuit, splashing around in the water with a grand smile on her lips.
Hongjoong had expected her to scream and scream and scream the first time in the water, considering bath times were not always her favourite time of the day. However as he had held her and gone into the warm water together with her, cooing and smiling to keep her calm, to his surprise, she seemed to love it.
"You don't have to go in yourself," one of the instructors had said to him from the water's edge. "You can sit with the other parents if you like."
However he didn't care if people stared or thought he was weird. Naeun was his daughter, and he was going to take these first steps with her, together—fuck what the rest of them had to say.
He loved it too. She couldn't talk, but somehow, they were sharing a moment—a gleeful one at that—and while other babies around him screamed and cried, Nabi and him played by the edge, having the time of their lives... Despite the way he could feel bitter eyes on him from the sidelines—a woman with blood red lips and dark sunglasses, with a sense of spite to her gaze.
He couldn't have cared less.
Having water splashed on his face, he laughed, feeling his heart throb warmly when it seemed to make his daughter ecstatic.
'Nabi-yah, we're going under water now~' he sung, before taking a deliberately deep breath, and dunking both their heads under.
When they came up, Nabi's bright butterfly eyes blinked hard with shock, however as he smiled and cooed to her—'look at you! Good girl~!'—she seemed to be enjoying herself.
As was he, even though he was swallowing more than enough water from Nabi splashing him constantly.
'Oh you're going to make daddy proud, aren't you?~' he cooed, smoothing back her hair. 'Maybe if Hwa appa finishes work in time, he can come see how good you are at swimming~'
He'd really wanted his husband to be there with him, however timing had not been on their side, and as Seonghwa had left the house in the morning, he had promised to come as soon as he could.
Unfortunately though, by the time Nabi had grown tired of playing in the water, his husband had not yet arrived.
Not until he had just returned from dressing the both of them in dry clothes—towel around his shoulders and a bag filled with his and Nabi's wet clothes—making his way over to where he had left their things a way away from the rest of the parents. He recognised a lot of the mothers from the group on the chairs by the pool, only a few having actually gone into the water with their babies, however he tried not to think about them or the impending sense of doom digging its claws into his chest...
Tried not to think about a very particular pair burning into the back of his head...
He smiled when he looked up and saw Seonghwa standing by their pram, folding their things to stow under the seat.
