Heaving an irritated breath, sitting in the driver's seat of his car in a vet's parking lot in the dark, Yunho looked across at the small cardboard box strapped into the passenger's seat; a box with one of his shirts jammed into the bottom of it, and his rubbish kitten curled up on top of it.

'What the fuck am I going to do with you?' he asked, voice slightly irritated. Glancing at the time on the dashboard, he cursed the world when he realised all of the pounds and vets would now most certainly be closed.

'Why the fuck are there so many stray animals?' he muttered.

He had been to three pounds in the past three hours, two of which had been significant drives to actually get there, as well as at least seven veterinarian clinics, and from all of them, he had more or less gotten the same response.

"We're very sorry, but we don't have any room to take her in. We have a lot of stray and abandoned animals, and we don't have the staff to cope."

One lady at the pound reception had even asked him if he wanted a job.

Another said, "we are working at absolute capacity," evidenced apparently by the presence of about nine puppies in a basket beside her computer, a parrot on her shoulder, an aggressive looking cat in a cage sitting on top of the printer behind her desk, and a turtle walking on top of the counter with a sticky note stuck to its back that read, I'm looking for a home

"How about you adopt her?" the last lady had offered at the pound he was currently parked outside of. She had been bottle feeding a baby goat on her lap whilst juggling two adolescent cats on her desk trying their best to make a right knot of the spiral cord attached to her landline phone, and her voice had sounded almost hopeful. Clearly her work day did not finish when they hung their "sorry, we are closed," sign in their window.

"You may have to look after her for a few days until you can find someone to take her."

... He supposed that was how he'd ended up with a receipt burning into his back pocket for milk formula, and a list of care instructions for kittens.

Heaving an annoyed breath, he poked his tongue into the inside of his cheek as he stared at the kitten in his passenger's seat. 'It looks like I'm stuck with you,' he said, resting the side of his head against the headrest as he looked at the animal. How the fuck was he supposed to explain that to Mingi when he got hom—

Ring ring, ring ring... Ring ring, ring ring...

'Speak of the devil...' he breathed as he pulled his phone from his pocket and saw Mingi's bright face gaze up at him with his gummy-shy smile.

Answering the call, he smiled when he heard Mingi's breath through the line, almost warm against his ear.

'Min~' he breathed, feeling his chest relax contently.

Through the line, he heard Mingi's soft giggle. 'Hi you~'

Unable to help his smile, he idly bit into his lip, picturing him on his dinner break. 'How's your shift going?'
