In a café just outside the hospital, Mingi couldn't contain his smile as he sat at a table with Nabi in his lap, letting her try his caramel apple sundae. Bless her, she looked so confused yet curious licking her fingers and shoving them in her mouth—Adorable.
'Do you like it?~' he cooed, bouncing her a little on his knee, and beaming as she looked up at him. 'I bet you'd like the strawberry one better~ Hmm? Just like your dadda?~'
'Dadda~!' Nabi said excitedly, smacking her sundae-y hands onto his chest.
Seonghwa nearly inhaled his drink as he jerked forward, crying, 'Nabi-yah!' as he threw his hands out to stop her—albeit too late. Sundae went all over his top, and the beautiful girl looked so confused—and maybe almost upset—reacting to her father's not-so-happy voice...
He felt bad, bouncing her to try bring back her smile. 'It's okay~' he said lightly to his friend, giving him a smile. He was only wearing hospital scrubs. 'I can change later~' He beamed down at the little girl. 'People are going to think I don't know how to feed myself~' he giggled.
She seemed happy enough, and he let her scoop her hand into the top of his sundae.
Not that Seonghwa seemed entirely at ease. 'You don't have to let her do that, you know.'
He brushed it off. 'She's okay~' He leant forward a little and put his lips around the straw, taking a sip, before leaning all the way back in his chair with Nabi resting into his stomach in his lap. 'How is your hubby?~' he asked his friend, watching him put his takeout coffee cup back on the table.
Seonghwa glanced out the huge bright windows at the hospital over the road. 'Not entirely happy to be back at work. Who would have thought?'
He let out a light breath of a laugh. 'Take blessings however they come,' he said, glad it seemed things between them seemed to have strengthened. He smiled down at their daughter. 'Daddy just misses you, doesn't he?' he cooed to her.
She was more concerned with licking her hands than anything else, still appearing to have not decided whether she liked it or not, though she did murmur 'dadda,' happily into her sundae-covered fingers.
Seonghwa sighed. 'So far, Joong's been really good,' he said, eyes still flicking across the road. 'He's not overworking, he's resting, he's asking for help... Most of the time...'
'He got a taste of what it's like to be home,' he replied gently, and Seonghwa nodded. 'I don't think he'll revert back, Hwa,' he said gently.
He could see it was something he feared, but the more he thought about it... 'There was so much going on back then. His mom just passed away, he adopted a child— Hwa, he was so stressed, and didn't know how to deal with it all, because they weren't problems he'd ever had before. He tried to hold onto his identity by working, but now he has more than just work to his name.
