There was no greater realisation that they were supposed to be together, than seeing the way he had hurt Yeosang, again, the way he had promised to himself he would never do again.

Door closed between them, Jongho had only descended four steps—two agonised tears down his cheeks—when he felt the heart wrenching realisation settle in.

They would never be able to be together.

There were a thousand reasons why they were not good for one another, but front and foremost, they simply had too many shadows in their past that they would never be able to move past, and the more love he felt for Yeosang, the more it would only make him less willing to put him through that pain all over again.

Perhaps that was what it meant to love unconditionally... Or more importantly, to love selflessly...

To love enough, to let go.

It felt like a punch to the gut and a knife to the heart, but it was suddenly so obvious. Just like he had accepted letting his dad go so that he could no longer suffer, he was fronted with a fear he hadn't known he'd had—letting go—and with it, he turned around and strode right back up the stairs, not even pausing before knocking on the door once more.

He could still hear cries coming from the other side—ammo for his determination to set him free—however the moments it took before he heard the handle turn, and the door swung open...

He was met with the sight of Hongjoong nearest, hand on the door, and Yeosang, with his beautiful head of strawberry blonde and dark rooted hair, ruffling with his brothers. Fuck, he loved him so much... Too, much... He almost wished he was more selfish... Maybe even loved him a little less, so that he could hold on...

However seeing the red rims to his beautiful eyes, his mottled skin, and rosy lips...

He dropped to his knees, blinking tears down onto the threshold, before gazing up at the man he loved more than he'd ever loved before.

'Yeosang, I don't want you to forgive me,' he choked out, feeling his heart break with the realisation, that this was it.

Swallowing hard, he tried so intently not to be swayed by the bewildered look on his face, instead turning to look at his brothers, first, at Hongjoong, and then, Wooyoung... 'Please don't blame him for coming back to me,' he said, trying to keep his voice steady. It wasn't until he took a moment to gather his words though, that he realised... As heartbroken as he was, he was anchored. He finally knew what he needed to do—the right thing he felt in his bones—and after so long of wronging Yeosang, finally, he could find comfort in that this was what he was meant to do.

'Please, I'm not asking for his forgiveness, nor do I want it. I only want for you to forgive him for coming back to me. It wasn't his fault. I was the bad guy, and when he was at his lowest and he couldn't hold on any longer, when he came to me, I let him, instead of helping him to hold strong like he'd wanted all along.
