A/N: I have a couple more scenes I want to write from before the series started, so I hope enjoying them.
I am also aware that a lot of u want more of San's backstory, and I apologise it has taken so long, but I have to admit, I actually held off for a long time, because for some reason, I struggle to see a lot of San's history. I'm not quite sure why, but come to think of it, I feel like I have often—or at least for a very long time now—found it difficult to write in San's POV in general. Not quite sure why... I guess they're linked.
Anywho, I have been seeing a little more of his story through high school growing up, so I really want to share it with you~

~ Eight Years Ago ~
San awoke sharply through the night as a very painful knee was delivered to the side of his hip. Crying out in pain and shock of being awoken so suddenly, he sat up in bed and immediately began rubbing his hipbone...
At least, until the bed stirred beside him, and he remembered very quickly that he was not alone.
Mingi was sharing it with him for the very first time.
And his friend's gentle—albeit bruised—but usually smiling face, was contorted in torment as he turned his head into the pillow and balled the sheets into his fists.
'Min?' he murmured, gingerly nursing his tender hip as he shifted towards him. He reached out and nudged his shoulder, eyeing the way he pulled his knees up again, legs curling into a ball, before stretching back out...
'Min-ah,' he said again, letting go of his hip to lean out on one hand and use his other to pat his friend's cheek. 'Min, are you having a nightmare?'
He watched his eyelashes crinkle as he squinted tightly.
He decided he must have, and decided to pat his cheek a little firmer. 'Min-ah,' he urged more sternly, before he decided to slip his hand around the side of his neck and try to sit him up.
By the time he managed to get him upright, Mingi's eyes snapped open and his seemingly black eyes darted around in the dark. He couldn't tell whether it was in fear, or in worry...
He decided it must have been both, and scooted closer to wrap his arms around him. 'It's okay Minnie, you're in my room,' he said, hugging his confused and disorientated friend. 'Are you okay? Were you having a bad dream?'
He wasn't sure how he knew, but the way Mingi's body just felt tense made him worried, because something wasn't right. Mingi was always so open and welcoming and gentle and happy, but now... He didn't even move to hug him back... He felt distant, despite being right beside him...
'Min-ah?...'
When he leant back, he saw the moment tears slipped down his mottled, bruised cheeks.
And his heart stopped as he stared at them. 'Min?...'
Sniffing, all at once, Mingi abruptly reached up and swiped away his tears, before staring down into the blankets. 'Mhm. Sorry I woke you,' he said, thought he didn't seem like he was even fully conscious—on autopilot while his mind was elsewhere...
