Chapter 5

The Next Day-Sunday

Everyone's at Jane's house. They came for lunch, dinner and to just hang out. Maura is only staying for lunch because she has a dinner date with Arizona. Maura is sitting on the couch in the living room talking with Frank and Frankie. Jane, Lindsay, Olivia, Claire, Cindy, Jill, Frost & Korsak are in the kitchen at the dining table talking, while Angela's making lunch.

Olivia: Okay, Jane, when are you gonna tell her?

Lindsay,Claire,Cindy,Jill&Angela: What is she talking about?

Jane: "Olivia." I whine. "You know my ma doesn't know, so why did you bring it up?"

Olivia: I'm sorry. I just think it's time for her to know. You're a grown woman Jane.

Angela: What don't I know and why is it time that I know it?

Jane opens her mouth but nothing comes out.

Olivia: Come on, Jane. Spit it out.

Jane: (whispers while looking at the table) I'm gay.

Angela: Do what?

Jane: (looks up at her ma) I'm gay.

Angela: You're telling me that you're gay?

Jane: Yes.

Angela: Is this because of what you did when you were younger or so I will stop trying to set you up?

Jane: (sniffles) It's why I did what I did. I've been gay since I was 16 and changed when I turned 18. The whole school made fun of me. I never told you or pop because we're catholic and the bible says being gay is a sin. I didn't want you to disown me or anything.

Angela: Oh, Janie. We'd never disown you for loving someone. Frank!

Frank: Yeah?

Angela: Come here and bring Frankie and Maura.

Jane's eyes go wide when she says Maura. Olivia whispers in her ear.

Olivia: Don't think about her right now. Only worry about your parents.

Angela: Janie needs to tell you all something.

Frank: Well, what is it?

Jane: I'm gay.

Frank: You're telling me that you're gay? Like dating women gay?

Jane: Yes, I am.

Frank: Oh, Janie. How long have you kept this to yourself?

Jane: (sighs and starts crying) Since I was 16. That's one reason why I got the procedure. I know we're catholic and I figured that once I told you, you'd either disown me or send me to a convent. I didn't want you to hate me, so I never said anything.

Frank: Oh Janie, we don't hate you. I don't care that you're gay. The bible is wrong about a lot of things. We've even talked to Father Crowley. He says it's okay if you're gay. We love you, no matter what. Okay?

Jane: Yeah. Thanks, daddy.

Frank: You're welcome, baby.

They hug and Jane wipes her eyes.

Olivia: Now, are you gonna tell everyone else your other two secrets?

Jane: No, I'm not. I never will.

Maura: Tell us what two secrets?

(silence)

Lindsay: Jane?

(silence)

Frankie: Jane, it's now or never. Just do it.

Maura: What are they talking about?

Jane: (sits down at the island next to Maura and looks at everyone) I used to be a guy. That's what the procedure we were talking about was. When I was 16 I started felling different and decided I was supposed to be a girl. When I turned 18, I had the procedure done and now I am. That's why my voice is so deep. I still have a penis, I just identify as a girl.

Maura: What's you're other secret?

(silence)

Maura: Jane?

Jane: I'm in love with you.

Maura: You're in love with me?

Jane: Yeah.

Maura: How long?

Jane: Since our first case together 7 years ago.

Maura: Why didn't you tell me?

Jane: I was afraid because of my parents. I'm sorry.

Maura: Dammit, Jane.

Jane: I said I'm so-

She's interrupted by Maura kissing her. She moans.

Maura: I love you, too.

Jane: What are you gonna do about Arizona?

Maura: I'll go on the date and find an excuse for why the relationship isn't working. I'll be back here around 6. I promise.

She kisses her hard leaving her breathless. Jane moans.

Jane: God! Kiss me like that again and you won't be leaving this house.

Everyone laughs.

Jane: I'm serious.

Angela finishes lunch and they eat. They visit for a few hours and then at 4:30, Maura leaves. She kisses Jane goodbye. They cook dinner and eat. After dinner, they just sit around and watch tv.

Just like Maura said, she came back right at 6. She walks in the door and is immediately grabbed by Jane and kissed hard. She moans.

Maura: God, Jane!

Jane: You're like a drug, Maura Isles. I can't get enough of you.

Frankie; Really, Janie? Really?

Jane: What?!

Frankie: You're like a drug, I can't get enough of you? It sounds perverted.

Jane: That's because you've never been in love. Get yourself a girlfriend and you'll be saying the same thing.

Lindsay looks at Cindy. She nods her head yes.

Lindsay: Since we are all revealing secrets about our relationships, I'd like to announce that I am also gay and I have a girlfriend.

Angela: Who is it?!

Lindsay looks at Cindy. She pulls her in and kisses her.

Jane & Frankie: Go sis!

Korsak & Frost: Woo-hoo!!

Jill & Claire look shocked at first but then cheer along with them.

Angela: So you're both gay?

Lindsay: Yeah. Is that a problem?

Angela: Of course not. I love you. But, I better get grandbabies.

Jane&Lindsay: Yes, ma.

Angela: Come here.

She hugs them. They squirm and try to get loose. Angela releases them and kisses their cheek.

Jane&Lindsay: Thanks, ma.

Angela: You're welcome.

They all visit for a few more hours, then everyone except for Maura leaves and goes home.
