Chapter 108

The Next Morning At the House

Maura's alarm goes off and she gets up. She barely got any sleep. She walks into the bathroom and throws up. She uses the bathroom and then gets dressed. She wants to call in but she knows she can't so she leaves and goes to BPD.

When she gets there, she sees Janes car already there. She goes inside and to the morgue. She decides to write Jane a letter and send it anonymously through inter-department mail.

This is what she writes:

Dear Jane,

   I'm sorry for what I did. I know that in a few weeks we won't be married anymore and if that's what you want then I'll sign the papers. I just wanted to tell you that all I thought about when Ian had me on the couch was you. It didn't even register that it was someone else. I'm sorry for hurting you so badly. I'm giving Cavanaugh my Letter of Resignation this morning. I'm probably gonna move to California. The police department in L.A. offered me the job of being their Chief Medical Examiner. It's better pay. I'm thinking about taking it. They don't know yet. They won't until I get there. I've had a really fun time being with you and your family, but I guess I screwed that up. I told Ian not to come back. He won't. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. I just want to tell you that I'm pregnant and if you want, we can agree on joint custody. What happened before was a condition and I had it fixed. I wish you were gonna be there when I give birth, but I guess I blew that too. I'm leaving this morning. I love you and I'll miss you.

She folds it up and puts it in an envelope. She writes Janes name on it and SVU. She puts it in the mail bin knowing Jane will have it in a few hours. Then she goes home packs her bags and calls a cab to take her to the airport.

A Little While Later
SVU Squad Room

Everyone is just sitting at their desks since they have no case. The mail cart comes in and the guy gives everyone their mail. He then goes to Janes office and knocks on the door. She opens it and takes the mail. He walks away. Everyone looks at her with a feeling of who it's from. She opens it and takes out the paper. She unfolds it and reads it. She starts crying and has to lean against the door frame in order not to fall.

Olivia: Are you okay Captain?

Jane shakes her head no.

Amanda: You want to sit down and talk about it?

She walks out and sits on the chair next to Olivia's desk.

Jane: She's quitting and moving to LA. They offered her a job as the Chief Medical Examiner and it pays more. She's thinking about taking it. She told Ian to get lost and never come back. She said he won't. She's also pregnant with my child and says that what happened before was a condition and she had it fixed. She wishes that I'd be there when she gives birth but she guesses she blew that too. She's also leaving this morning. What do I do? She's cheated on me 4 times since we started dating, once after we got married. Do I go get her back or do I let her go?

Everyone: That's up to you.

Jane: I don't know. What if she does it again?

Olivia: Well, that's when you ask yourself that if you do this and she cheats again, what will happen?

Jane: I know what will happen. I'll kick her ass. I'm gonna go home. I'm too tired to do anything.

Amanda: Okay Captain. We'll be fine. It's okay. Go home and feel better. We'll call if we get anything.

Jane: Thanks guys.

Everyone: You're welcome.

She grabs her stuff and goes home.
