At Eddie and Debbie's House

(Car door closes) (Clanging)

Jane: Hello?

Debbie: Hey. What are you doing here?

Jane: We just wanted to ask you some questions.

Debbie: Okay. Would you mind holding these Alba roses? - So awful about Steve Sanner.

Jane: Yeah. Could you, uh, tell us about your relationship with him?

Debbie: What do you mean?

Jane: Come on, Debbie. You know what I mean. We have his phone records.

Debbie: We ran into each other. We had coffee, a few conversations.

Lindsay: Were you having an affair?

Debbie: No.

A Camera shutter clicks.

Debbie: Of course not.

Jane: Lindsay.

The Engine turns over.

Jane: Boston police! Now! Boston P.
D. Get out of the car.

Lindsay throws a plant at the car.

Man: Damn it! Do you know how much this is gonna cost?

Lindsay: Keep your hands where we can see them.

Man: Take it easy. I'm a private investigator.

Jane: Then you know the drill. Two fingers -- pull some I.D. Slowly.

Man: I got every right to be here.

Jane: You want to lose the attitude? We're in the middle of a homicide investigation. You're interfering with a potential witness.

Man: I got nothing to do with a homicide.

Lindsay: Then why the paparazzi camera?

Debbie: It's okay. He's a plant activist, as well.

Jane: Okay. Great.

Man: Husband thought she might be banging someone. Hired me to sit on her.

Jane: Did you find proof?

Man: Yeah. Two different guys.

Lindsay: Let us see it.

He does.

Jane: That's our victim. Show me the second guy.

He does.

Lindsay: Who is he?

Man: I don't know.

Jane: All right. We're gonna need your memory card.

Man: Yeah, yeah, or you'll charge me with obstruction.

(Camera whirs)

Jane: Thank you.

Debbie: I have to go get these plants watered and fertilized.

Jane: We have a few more questions, Debbie.

Debbie: I don't know anything, and I called our lawyer.

(Engine turns over)

Debbie: And he says I don't have to talk to you. I'm sorry, Jane.

She drives away.

Jane: The whole school knew about it the day she lost her virginity.

Lindsay: Hmm. That means she's hiding something.

Jane: Mm-Hmm.

At BPD

Jane: I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I sort of feel sorry for Emily.

Maura: Adolescence is such a volatile time. It probably wasn't easy for her, either.

Jane: Oh, it was easy for her thanks to those boobs you saw that arrived special delivery when she was 12.

Maura: Although large breasts can cause back pain and severe sciatica.

Jane: Well, turns out they can't protect you from the pain of life. She said their marriage was perfect. Not anymore.

Maura: Oh, I don't think it's been perfect for a while. Bruxism. Hairline cracks indicating excessive grinding due to stress. Muehrcke lines on his fingernails -- another stress indicator.
Something was causing him enormous anxiety.

Jane: One of the most easygoing guys I've ever met.

Frost walks in.

Frost: Hey.

Jane: What have you got?

Frost: Debbie Tibbet was just found.
She's dead, Jane.

At Debbie's House

(Camera shutter clicking)

Maura: It appears to be a suicide.

Jane: What?

Maura: She put this noose around neck and leaned forward.

Jane: [Scoffs ] I don't believe this. We were just helping her rescue rose bushes a few hours ago.

At Eddie and Debbie's House

Jane: I'm so, so sorry.

Eddie: I don't understand.

Lindsay: Did your wife seem troubled about anything?

Eddie: Yes. The last few weeks were terrible. She was like a different person. We know about the private investigator you hired to follow her.
(Sighs) Debbie was suddenly so secretive.

Jane: Did you confront Steve at the reunion?

Eddie: No, of course not. I didn't know what to do. I Just-Didn't want to lose her.

Lindsay: You understand that we'll have to dig into your life to make sure that's true.

Eddie: That's okay. I understand.

Jane shows him a picture.

Jane: Do you know who this is?

Eddie: No. Jane? Do you think Debbie killed herself?

Jane: I knew her in high school, Eddie.

Eddie: She didn't. There's no way.

He sobs.
