The Next Morning

Jane walks in the bedroom all sweaty.

Maura: You went without me.

Jane: You wouldn't get up.

Maura: Because it was nighttime.

Jane: It was 4:30.

Maura: Yeah. We call that "nighttime."

Jane: I couldn't sleep.

Maura walks to her.

Maura: Good morning.

She kisses her.

Jane: Mm.
Maura: Mm.

Maura: How far did you go?

Jane: I went to the, uh, B.U. bridge.

Maura: You went 12 miles? On an on-call work day?

Jane: Sure. Why not? I need the exercise.

Maura: Can you leave those clothes on? They're so hot.

Jane laughs and Maura pulls her onto the bed.

Jane: Don't. I'm all sweaty.

Maura: Mm. Can you keep those clothes on? You're so hot.

Jane: I love you.

Maura: Wow.

Jane: Well, I always say it to you in my head. I guess it was time to say it out loud more.

Maura: That sounds so bizarre when we say it.

They both laugh.

Maura: So which one of us is gonna say "uncle"?

Jane sighs.

Jane: Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way around it, does there? One of us is gonna have to be a house-spouse.

Maura: Hmm.

Jane: Why is it so complicated?

Maura: Don't stress. We have awhile before that'll happen.

Lindsay walks in while they're kissing.

Lindsay: Morning!

Jane: Mm.

Maura: Mm.

Lindsay: Everybody decent in there?!

Jane: Yes! Perfect timing! We were hoping to have an orgy, and then we realized we were one person short.

Lindsay: Ha.

Maura: Hey, Lindsay.

Lindsay: Hi. Uh, you guys still want to run to Boston Joe's?

They sigh.

Lindsay: I'm sorry.

Jane: Come on. Let's go.
