At The Dirty Robber

Paddy: Hey. Can I buy you a drink, Sean?

Cavanaugh: Yeah.

He punches Paddy in the face. Paddys men start to go at Cavanaugh. They run in.

Jane: Whoa! Hey! Boston police! Knock it off! Hey, stop it! No, no! Come on! Back off! Back off. Back off.

Cavanaugh: I'm gonna kill him.

Maura: Try not to move, Chief. How could you?!

Paddy: He came at me. I was minding my own business.

Jane: Oh, shut up! Come on, let's get him up.

Korsak: I'll get him out of here. Let me take him. Come on, Sean. Let me take you.

Cavanaugh: He killed my family. He killed my family.

At Jane and Maura's House

Maura: I still think we need to get him to a hospital. He needs stitches and his nose reset.

Cavanaugh: No hospital.

Korsak: I agree. Let's not make this worse with a paper trail.

Jane: You reset my nose. You can do that. Can you stitch him up, too?

Maura: Okay, get me some towels and my medical bag.

Jane: Okay.

Maura: Let's put him on the couch.

Cavanaugh: I don't want to get any blood on it.

Maura: No, no, it's okay.

Korsak: As soon as we can move him, I'll take him to my place.

Cavanaugh: No, I'm fine.

Korsak: No, you're not. And if you think I'm gonna let you try and kill Paddy again, think again.

Cavanaugh: He's a dead man!

Jane: Chief, if anyone deserves to kill him, it's you. But you can't. Think about what you had to go through to survive Linda and Christopher's death. Every day that you force yourself to go on living is a tribute to those two people that loved you.

Cavanaugh: I blamed myself. All this time, I thought that fire was an accident. I was right to blame myself. It's my fault that they died.

Korsak: Don't say that.

Cavanaugh: Linda and the baby weren't supposed to be there, Vince! He wanted me, but I was working! I was always working! So, instead, he killed them. Get out of my way!

Korsak: No.

Cavanaugh: He's not spending another day on Earth!

Jane: Chief, there's another way. We keep digging, we prove that Paddy paid Ghetts to set the fire, Paddy gets charged with arson, and he gets the death penalty.

Cavanaugh: You gonna move?

Korsak: No!

Cavanaugh: Well, what are you gonna do, Vince? You gonna shoot me? 'Cause that's what it's gonna take.

Maura sedates him.

Jane: Oh, what the hell?

Maura: (holds up the syringe) I heard you say there was another way. It's all I could think of.

A few minutes later

Maura: All she needs to do is check his vitals and administer the sedative every four hours.
