°•. ✿ .•° °•. ✿ .•°After exchanging gifts, everyone was rather happy. Draco even cracked a few smiles but the worst part had to be when Elizabeth and Mattheo stared blankly at each other.
As she'd handed out everyone's presents; she stared into her bag. The little black box, staring back at her. She dithered on the idea, before ultimately deciding to pretend she'd forgotten to get him something, which worked out well because he too, didn't produce a present for her.
They could both see their friends watching them with wide eyes, clearly also feeling awkward. Luckily, Enzo had been the one to break the tension by getting the boys to follow him outside, to try out his new broom.
That left Pansy and Elizabeth and as the small brunette had started to tidy up the room. Pansy spoke up.
"I know you got him a present Elizabeth Montague" Pansy raised her eyebrows.
"No. I didn't" Elizabeth shook her head. Continuing to shove wrapping paper and empty bottles into a bag before walking out of the room. As she entered to kitchen, she looked out of the window. Admiring the grounds of Malfoy manor. It was a rather beautiful sight, Narcissa really did take great pride in her flowers.
In her daze, she didn't hear the door to the kitchen to open, not until she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Fuck!" Elizabeth jumped, the empty fire whiskey bottle slipping from her grasp and shattering over the kitchen tiles.
"Shit-sorry Lizzy" Mattheo grumbled, kneeling down at the same time as she did, both of their hands carefully picking up pieces of glass.
She stayed silent. The only sound in the room was the sounds of glass scraping the floor. They were so close; she could feel his breath fanning her face.
Elizabeth zoned out, not wanting to think about the boy in front of her but as she continued grabbing the pieces of the broke bottle, a screech left her lips.
"Ow fuck!" Elizabeth broke from her trance, looking down to her hand, blood trickling down her fingers and onto the floor.
"Are you okay?" Mattheo was quick, too quick almost. His hand reached for Her's, clasping it gently as he inspected her damaged skin. "Let me-..."
"No it's fine" Elizabeth swallowed thickly, turning on her heel as she ran her hand under the cold tap.
"Lizzy-..."
"Stop. I'm not doing this Mattheo" Elizabeth shook her head.
"Not doing what?" Mattheo's eyes softened slightly as the girl turned her head, her eyes bubbling with unspilt tears.
"This-Mattheo, you're getting married, in June according to Enzo and I-I'm with Theo" She pulled her lip between her teeth as she stared into his chocolate eyes.
"Do you know how hard it is...for me to see you with him" Mattheo flinched slightly.
"Do you know how hard it was for me...when you told me you had to marry someone else?!" Elizabeth growled, finally facing him again. "I was so in love with you and you broke me, again. You're lucky that I even gave you the chance to be my friend".
Mattheo nodded his head, his lip twitching. He shoved his hand into his pocket before pulling out a small black box. He slammed it down on the counter, making Elizabeth's eyebrows furrow.
"It will always be yours" he muttered as he walked out of the room. Leaving Elizabeth alone and slightly bewildered.
With a shaky hand, she grabbed the box. Slipping the lid off. Her face softened as she looked at the familiar diamond ring. He gave it back.
She let out a breath, taking the ring from the box and slipping it into the pocket of Theo's hoodie. A sense of guilt, creeping over her.
With a sigh, she went back into the living room, to find it empty. Her hand dove into her almost empty bag and wrapped around the black box with the green ribbon. A faint smile grew on her lips as she ran up the grand staircase, all the way to the end of the hallway, where she knew he would be.
She quietly placed the box on the floor before tapping her knuckles to the wood and taking off again. As soon as she shut her bedroom door, she noticed how her heart was pounding in her chest. He'd know who it was from, he'd know her handwriting.
Elizabeth felt surprisingly calm and collected as she slipped into the shower. Washing her hair and body thoroughly before drying herself and taking a curling iron to her hair. Once she was satisfied, she applied a small amount of makeup and grabbed her neatly folded dress out of her bag. It was a dark green in colour, a satin ballgown, if you will. The perfect dress for a Malfoy manor Christmas meal.
She slipped the cold fabric over her body, struggling slightly as she did the zipper up at the back but eventually she managed it, letting out a huff when it was done. Her feet were clad with a pair of strappy black heels, giving her the necessary height she needed.
A knock on her door, made her stop in her tracks. She puffed her chest out as she strode across the room. She hesitated, shaking the nervousness from her mind as she pulled the door open but her fear subsided when she was met with eyes of hazel.
There stood Theodore Nott, a black suit hugging his body. His curls were perfect and Elizabeth could tell he'd taken the time to properly style them.
"Wow..." Theo's eyes trailed up and down her body before landing on her face, a blush rising on her cheeks. "You are...beautiful" Theo gulped. He'd never been so nervous around a girl, so intimidated but Elizabeth Montague was a force to be reckoned with. Her beauty ran deeper than just the surface.
"You look very handsome as well" Elizabeth smirked as she stepped into the hallway.
"Can't wait for dinner to be over so that I can eat my dessert" Theo leant into close to her ear, whispering the words softly. A chill ran down Elizabeth's spine, a dampness pooling between her legs.
"Stop it" Elizabeth shoved him playfully.
Theo chuckled as he snaked his hand around her waist, resting his hand on her hip. He guided her down the hallway, the sound of her heels echoing around the large house.
"I have another surprise for you" Theo spoke softly.
"What?" Elizabeth whipped her head to the side.
"Just wait and see darling" Theo was grinning, ear to ear and suddenly, Elizabeth felt slightly nervous, her palms becoming sweaty as they approached the staircase but when her eyes travelled downwards, into the foyer. Everything slowed down, eyes of green, ones that mirrored hers, the ones that belonged to Graham Montague.
