Mattheo sat at her bedside. His hand clasped tightly around hers, afraid that if he let go, she'd disappear.

After Draco's miraculous ability to cast a spell so quickly, Mattheo had bought Elizabeth to the hospital wing. Concerned she might have some sort of internal injury. It turned out, she did have a broken rib. Although Madame Pomfrey made it very clear, that had it not been for Draco. She'd probably be dead.

Mattheo couldn't help but feel guilty. He should have realised she wasn't okay. He shouldn't of ignored the niggling feeling and he should've caught her.

The thought of living in a world without her, was enough to make a single tear fall from his eye. One that he wiped away quickly.

It had only been an hour, but Mattheo was convinced she should be awake by now. Hounding Madame Pomfrey at any chance he got but the older woman assured him that she was okay. That she was probably exhausted.

With a sigh, Mattheo leant back in his chair. Closing his eyes for just a second but what was meant to be a brief rest, turned into a deep sleep. With her hand in his, he felt at home.

The feeling of his hand being lightly squeezed, drew him from his slumber and as he peeled his eyes open, letting them adjust to the bright lights. He saw Elizabeth stirring in her bed. Her face screwed up, contorting in what Mattheo assumed was pain.

"Lizzy" his voice was slightly groggy as he sat forwards, his eyes wide as he watched her eyelids flicker open.

"Mattheo" she blinked rapidly, her eyes adjusting to the light.

"Are you okay?" Mattheo stood up, leaning over her as he brushed the hair away from her face.

"Mm my-my ribs hurt" she groaned. Her hand going to the right side of her abdomen.

"I know, I'll get Madame Pomfrey" Mattheo nodded quickly but before he could walk away, she grabbed his hand.

"Thank you" a soft smile fell upon her face.

"Lizzy I didn't-..." Mattheo shook his head.

"But you tried" her eyes were soft as she watched him.

"I'll be back" Mattheo turned on his heel, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before going in search of the older woman.

He watched nervously as Madame Pomfrey handed Elizabeth potion after potion, the small brunette taking them without hesitation. That's how he knew, she was in pain.

"You're to stay here for tonight dear" Madame Pomfrey spoke softly.

"But Madame I have to-..." Elizabeth tried to sit up. Only to clutch her side with a groan. The action making Mattheo rush to her side, helping her lie back down.

"It is not up for discussion" Madame Pomfrey sent Mattheo a look before disappearing behind the curtains that surrounded Elizabeth's bed.

"Will there ever be a time that you're not worrying about something else?" Mattheo scoffed.

"No" Elizabeth smirked, letting her head flop against the pillow behind her.

"Lizzy. What happened?" Mattheo retook his seat. Scooting his chair closer to her bedside.

"I-...I'm terrible at flying. I'm scared of heights and I've never been able to control a broom" she looked down to her hands.

"Why didn't you say anything?" Mattheo's jaw clenched slightly.

"It's embarrassing" Elizabeth rolled her eyes.

"But you wouldn't have been here now if you-..." Mattheo sucked in a breath. "It doesn't matter".

Silence fell over the two teenagers. Unspoken thoughts and feelings, circling them both. New Year's Eve was at the front of Mattheo's mind, he owed her an explanation for his abrupt exit and his lack of communication since but as he stared at her tired figure, he knew that now wasn't the right time.

"Get some sleep Lizzy" Mattheo sent her a tight lipped smile.

"Will you...will you stay? Until I fall asleep?" Elizabeth twiddled her thumbs. She wasn't sure why she felt so awkward.

"Of course" he nodded slowly. Lifting his legs up and resting his feet on the edge of her bed.

He watched intently as Elizabeth tired to get comfortable, ultimately deciding to stay led on her back. Which he knew she hated. She let her eyes flicker closed and after ten minutes of watching her, he saw her breathing even out. Her chest rising and falling softly, signalling that she'd fallen fast asleep.

He knew he could leave, that she would be okay but a part of him, worried that she might not be.

So, instead, he crossed his arms over his chest. Resting his head against the back of his chair, letting his eyes fall closed.

The only sound in the infirmary, was Madame pomfreys heels, slightly clicking against the floor. It was peaceful and Mattheo found himself falling into a deep slumber too.

Somehow her mere presence, was enough to fix his damaged heart. He wished he could stay here forever, at her side but he knew it was impossible and soon enough, he wouldn't be able to be near her at all.

So, he soaked up every second. Her slight snores filling his mind as he drifted into sleep. The warmth of her body, radiating to his legs.

There wasn't a time that he wouldn't try to save her. Not in this lifetime or in the next. No matter what terms they were on, he would walk through fire to get to her and he knew that she would do the same.

So that night, he dreamt of her. Of the future they could've had. Of the summer they spent together. Of the kisses and the nights they spent wrapped up in each other's arms. No one would ever match up to the girl that she was.

No one.
