~2 months later~

"Elizabeth...we need more food" Enzo pulled his bottom lip between his teeth. His eyes flicking onto the girl. She was sat on the ledge, of the tall clock tower they were currently resided in, an old blanket covering her shoulders. Her wand was in her hand as she manipulated the ball of fire she'd created to keep them warm.

"I know enz, I'll go and see what I can do" Elizabeth stood up with a huff, a shiver running down her spine.

"No, no. You're not going out there alone, I'll go" Enzo gave her a sad smile. He stood to his feet, dusting off his knees before walking through the old wooden door and down the stone steps.

It had been two months, since they left Hogwarts. Two months that they'd been looking for Mattheo, without any luck. He could see it on her face everyday, she was getting more and more disheartened but being who she was, meant that she wouldn't give up hope. Not until she'd searched every corner of the world.

He didn't want to be the one to tell her, that there was little chance of finding Mattheo. He couldn't crush her heart and soul but he also knew, they couldn't survive like this forever. They'd been hopping from place to place, sometimes finding witches and wizards, kind enough to give up their spare room for a few nights but most of the time, sleeping in derelict buildings.

Enzo let the thoughts float from his mind as he entered the narrow alleyway in between the clock tower and what they'd come to assume was some sort of brothel.

They were currently in Italy. Elizabeth's idea was that, this was Theo's home and maybe Mattheo had come here to feel closer to him. Enzo thought it was a good idea, at first but now, he wasn't so sure.

His wand was tight in his grip, as he crept quietly out into the street. It was mostly empty, apart from a few drunk locals, but they weren't an issue.

There was a shop, not too far up the street. A small place, ran by an old Italian couple. Enzo felt bad, that he was about to steal from them and then obliviate them but it was that or starve.

As he pushed the creaky door open, a little bell rang above his head. Sure enough, the place was empty, which made his life easier.

His eyes browsed the shelves, not sure of what he was really grabbing. This is when he needed Theo.

Once his arms were full, he walked to the counter, dropping everything down. His eyes met with that of an old woman's, she sent him a warm smile, which made Enzo screw his nose up. He was going to hell.

"I'm so sorry..." just as he raised his wand, the woman burst into a fit of hysterics but she wasn't pointing at him, she was pointing at someone behind him.

He spun around on his heel, his eyes meeting a pair of brown ones. Chocolate brown. The person faltered, seemingly going into a state of shock. Half of their face was covered with a sort of old rag but it didn't matter, Enzo knew who he was looking at.

"Matt-.." just as Enzo opened his mouth. A spell was thrown. He ducked down, his eyes widening when he saw the woman behind the counter knocked out.

The masked person ran from the shop. Enzo looked between his snacks and the door, deciding this was more important than food.

Once out in the street, Enzo caught of sight of a cloak, rounding a corner.

He was quick on his feet as he followed after them, his wand at the ready, just in case he was wrong.

As his eyes rounded the corner, he saw the figure, frozen at the end of an alleyway. They'd made a wrong move, taken the wrong turning, because this was a dead end.

"Mattheo" enzo's voice was quiet as he slowly inched closer and closer.

As he finally stood under the blinding light from the lantern above him, he could see clearly. Those eyes. He could recognise them from a mile away. He'd known them since he was eleven years old.

"I'm sorry" Mattheo mumbled before raising his wand. "Stupefy!".

Enzo didn't see it coming. The spell collided with his chest, sending him flying back a few feet, where his back smashed against the cobble pavement. His head rolled to his shoulder and the last thing he saw, was the moon in the sky.

"Enzo!"

"Enzo!!"

"For fucks sake. Aguamenti"

"Holy fuck!" Enzo lurched up into a sitting position. Coughing slightly as he wiped his hand over his face. His eyes fluttered around, until they locked with the concerned ones of Elizabeth Riddle.

"What happened?!" Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows.

"I saw-Mattheo" Enzo shook his head.

"What?" Elizabeth felt her eyes widen.

"He's here but he knocked me out...the prick" Enzo grumbled as he pushed himself onto his feet.

Elizabeth stood up too, placing her hand on enzo's arm.

"Why would he do that?" Elizabeth looked down to her shoes.

"I don't know! How did you find me anyway?" Enzo leant back against the wall, stretching out his bruised spine.

"You didn't come back-so I came to look for you and then some drunk man said, he saw you go down here" Elizabeth motioned out to the street with her hand. "But...why would he hex you...I-i..." she'd been looking for him, for two months. Hoping she'd find the same boy that she'd lost but in this moment, she wondered if maybe, he didn't want to be found.

"Beth have you considered that-and I say this as your bestfriend-that maybe...he's not who he was before" Enzo gave her a sad smile.

"I-...maybe. Yes. But enz, I just-I need to know...I need to know why he left without me. He knows I would have ran with him. So why...did he leave" Elizabeth felt tears brewing behind her eyes, her nose filling with the familiar fuzzy feeling.

"I don't know Beth, I wish I did but he had the chance, last night to talk to me. He didn't know you were with me...he could've-he could've given me a message to give to you and he didn't. Don't you think-that maybe, it's time to...stop looking" Enzo let his shoulders slump, he felt bad even saying the words.

"If I stop looking...it means it's over" Elizabeth muttered the words that she never wanted to say.

"He told you he'd come back to you one day...in his letter. Don't let that hope go Beth...but...you also can't spend your life, chasing someone who doesn't want to be found" Enzo placed his hand on Elizabeth's shoulder, squeezing it gently.

"Let's just...go" Elizabeth sighed, turning on her heel but before she could make it out into the street...

"Go where Beth?" Elizabeth knew he was smirking, she could tell by the tone of his voice.

"Wherever the wind takes us" Elizabeth turned her head, smiling widely.
