Ch 5 - Senjutsu

The first thing Ban wanted to teach Jin wasn't physical control or martial art fighting techniques. But this mystical ancient practice of Senjutsu. While others may have thought it was pointless learning something that could be comparable to superstition, Jin was a child. He was more than excited to learn about something comparable to magic. Even if it was fake and purely a cultural tradition in his mind.

But while he didn't know it was real. That is was something he could do because Jin wasn't normal, and that also applied to Ban. Ban wasn't a normal human being either.

So as Jin sat down on the padded Dojo floor, his legs crossed like Ban said and his hands on his knees. Closing his eyes and taking deep breaths. He listened to Ban, whose hands were on his back, sitting in a similar position to Jin.

Ban: Now listen closely Jin. Senjutsu while similar to magic, is fundamental different from Magic and sorcery. The biggest difference between Senjutsu and magic is that Senjutsu uses Chakra, Aura, Life-force or Ki. It is a spiritual power that is turned into a constant current inside of ones body. Do you understand so far?

Jin: So its like a river of water in my own body? Senjutsu is about using that rushing water.

Ban: {He's intelligent.} Yes. But for you, you can think of it as rushing water, feeling its flow, flexibility and adaptability, a power that fills your entire body. Or you can think of it as fire, a powerful energy that spreads through your entire body, engulfing it in a powerful aura.

Ban said which caused Jin to smile widely. Even if this was all fake to him, it sounded so cool. He couldn't help but get giddy when Ban spoke of this ancient culture. Listening to Ban so he absorbed all the information he needed.

Ban: Now you may think that Senjutsu is less than magic. You wont be able to fire out shots of lightning or create swirling vortexes of water. But despite people saying it being incapable of matching the destructive power of magic... thats all a lie. Senjutsu if used propely can be one of the most dangerous powers anyone will know, on top of being very versitile in its non-conbative uses.

Jin: Non-combative?

Jin said curriously, if it wasn't only more destructice than magic, but also versatile, wasn't it better?

Ban: For example, if you learned Senjutsu, you'll be able to sense life-force or Ki. With that you'll be able to excel at reading the flow of someone's aura, thus you'll be able to grasp movements from a far distance to a certain degree. Maybe even predict someone's movements before they make them based on their Ki flow.

Ban slightly smiled as Jin was shaking in excitement. To him it sounded so cool. But he has yet to finish listing off all the things Senjutsu could do.

Ban: You're getting too excited for only knowing one small part of the many things Senjutsu can do. You haven't even begun to sense your own energy you need to use to perform all these "cool" techniques.

Jin: How do I sense my energy?

Ban: First continue keeping your eyes closed and continue taking deep breaths.

Jin closed his eyes as be slowly tried to calm down his excitement. Calming his mind as he took deep controlled breaths. Feeling the thumping of his heartbeat and expanding and contraction of his lungs. His diaphragm moving up and down as he breathed.

Ban: Good. Now this shouldn't be difficult for you. Your consciousness is linked to your energy. Your Ki. You're always subconscious of it. You'll now just need to feel it consciously.

Jin listened to Bans words. Feeling inside of him. Deep inside of him he wandered through his body. Feeling it. Feeling his energy as he smiled. Maybe this was what everyone felt. A warm power inside of him. But yet, it felt all tangled. Like a ball of yarn. Only a small thread outside of it. But Ban felt it too. Feeling Jins energy.

Jin: What's this weird string?

Ban: Don't touch it. {Someone's went to a great extent to hide what Jin is. But they have given him the ability to release his own energy. It's tangled, but in a way where he pulls on the string, all his power will come flooding back to him. However, it hasn't stopped him completely. He still had the ability to tap into his sealed energy. He's talented at controlling his Ki to the point he can use it even if it's sealed. But why would someone do this? Who did this? Was it his guardian?}

Ban thought because while Jins energy was sealed, Jin was still a danger to others with his sudden outbursts. It wasn't that his outbursts destabilised the sealing. The seal on his power was perfect. But Jins ability to use Ki, to tap into his own aura was something to be in awe of. Despite his seal he could still tap into his power.

Jin: Ban?

Ban: Huh? Oh yes. That string Jin... is something you should only pull on when you really need it. When you're in great danger. It will... give your body a natural boost of energy, but it will permanently change your life forever.

Ban said trying to justify the unusual entanglement of Jins power. Making it seem normal. But nothing about it was normal. But a child of only 6 years old knew no better.

Jin: Wait is this like those secret hidden cards! One that gives great power but exhausts you and injury!

Ban: Yes?

Ban said unconfidently as this was definitely not that. But again, he just let Jins imagination run wild. Feeling as people should have used this amazing superpower more. He had never seen people use it.

Jin: I won't touch it until I need to! I promise!

Jin smiled as Ban took his hands off his back. Scuffing Jins hair.

Ban: I want you to know, even if you can't use these techniques I tell you now. Practice them. Because if you do pull on that string, they'll be of great help.

Jin: So it's a limiter in my power. Am I stronger or weaker compared to other people?!

Ban: Trust me, you are much stronger than normal people. That's why you'll need to practice diligently, to control this power. Can you promise me you'll never stop practicing?

Jin: I promise!

Jin said with a big smile. Taking a small weight of Bans shoulders. If Jin was to practice. It was unlikely an incident like the room shaking and accidentally killing was going to happen again.

Ban: Let's go get some food then.

Ban stood up as he walked off, quickly followed behind by Jin. Wearing the same black top and white trousers.
