It had been a different week for Jin. For a reason he couldn't find out, many more Stray Devils were appearing in Kuoh and he had seen from afar many more Fallen Angels. Jin didn't know what was happening in Kuoh but he didn't care. He was trying to think of a different technique to add to the Fist of Flowing Water, Crushed Rock style. Maybe came up with his own style to add it as a second part. He didn't know how he was going to uphold Ban's request, but he was going to make sure he did uphold it.
Jin hadn't seen Mittelt again. He had some worries since she was weak and was using her powers all wrong and extremely inefficiently. But he had seen other Fallen Angels around so he was sure they were her comrades and they were fine.
He hadn't seen Sona either. But then again he wasn't going to an all-girls school so it was obvious they would never meet again except on the rare occurrence of bumping into each other or the Kuoh Chess Tournament. Or maybe she was looking for him.
Because that's what he could sense right now. Sona watching him. "Hidden" behind a building. All while he was playing chess with himself talking to Aika. But it didn't seem Sona could hear what they were saying.
Aika: I can't believe you met a magical girl!
Jin: It was a Fallen Angel dressed as a magical girl. Just with more class, without looking like a rainbow threw up on her.
Aika gave a small giggle as she looked at Jin move the chess pieces. Only to look at her watch and widen her eyes at the time.
Aika: SHIT GYMNASTICS! JIN I'LL SEE YOU TOMORROW! AND DON'T GO MAKING A HAREM WITHOUT ME!
Jin: {What's a harem?}
Aika jumped off Jin as she gave him a hug. Running off as he gently waved goodbye. Continuing to play chess by himself. Enjoying the peace of silence as he heard the soft tap of his marble pieced to the table board. But that silence didn't last long. As Sona came to the table and sat down.
Sona: I WON'T MARRY YOU!
Jin: {Well that's one way to start a sentence.} Nice to meet you again. But what?
Sona: JUST BECAUSE YOU BEAT ME HEARING THE DEAL I MADE WITH MY PARENTS DOESN'T MEAN I STILL CAN'T BEAT YOU TO STOP THE MARRIAGE!
Sona shouted trying to grasp at any straws she could. She couldn't lie to her parents about her defeat. To get out of her last engagement with someone she made the deal she wouldn't marry anyone unless they could beat her at chess and were on the same intelligence level as her. But she wouldn't be lying if she beat Jin. It wouldn't be lying to say she won then.
But Jin was extremely confused. He understood everything from the few words she shouted. But that didn't make him any less confused.
Jin: What idiot would put marriage on the line for a game of chess? Aren't you just here to play a game with me because you were unsatisfied with your defeat? {She wouldn't be the first finals loser to do that.}
Sona looked at Jin confused. As if he didn't know anything about the deal despite a large majority of the supernatural world knowing that deal.
Sona: You... You don't know about the deal. The deal of the Sitri clan chessmaster?
Jin: No. I did not know of the deal until now. Though I have no interest in it. I also don't know where you get of calling yourself a chessmaster when you lost to me. But I would be more than happy to play you again, you were one of my best matches in these past years.
Jin said as Sona blushed from embarrassment, nervousness and now she was slightly calming herself. Realising she would leaning over the table right in front of Jins face she could see clearly. His handsome face. Slowly she sat down as she properly adjusted herself.
Sona: You just want to play a regular no stakes game of chess with me?
Jin: Chess was initially invented to simulate battles. But isn't it boring if you don't play the game just for fun? So don't get so stressed. Win or lose, I won't take anything from you, you won't take anything from me. Our wins or losses mean nothing on this table. Let's just have fun okay?
Jin said looking at violet eyes. She seemed deep in thought. She was thinking about her games of chess. Realising that even against a friend, it wasn't for fun. It battle for her. But as she was watching Jin, he may have took each move seriously. Never holding back. But there was no battle in sight. He had fun playing chess. Even against himself.
Sona: Do... Do you want to play chess with me? I'm sorry but I haven't really made the best impressions on you. {He really didn't know.}
Jin: I would like it. It's been a while since I've struggled beating someone and you're quite talented at the game. Though if I have to ask one thing, it would be that this could be a more permanent arrangement.
Sona looked at Jin who slowly set his pieces, lining them all up neatly. Sona gently smiled as she began doing the same.
Sona: I would like that. Though I have school and weekends are busy for me. Would after school suit you?
Jin: I'll be in the park waiting with my pieces. Now, let's start the game...
Sona: Sona Sitri.
Jin: Now, let's start the game Sona. I'm Jin. Just Jin.
Sona: We'll it will be a pleasure to play with you, Just Jin.
Sona said smile and giggling a bit as she moved her white piece. Missing Jins gentle and smile as Jin moved his piece.
She may have only been able to play two games with him before leaving. She maybe have lost those two games. But it didn't feel bad to her. She didn't feel like she had to tell her parents of her loss.
She could just enjoy the game. Enjoying the company of someone sat across from her.
Enjoying the new permanent arrangement she made with Jin.
