Navigating through the crowd, you cursed under your breath. You were already fifteen minutes late for work with another ten minutes to go. Your alarm had failed you this morning, and of course, it had to be today, the day of an important meeting. Meanwhile, Changbin was making his way through the same crowd, headphones on full volume, oblivious to the bustling surroundings. Texting Chan to let him know he was on his way, he didn't notice you until it was too late. You collided, a flurry of papers and belongings scattering around you.
Changbin's phone slipped from his grasp as he instinctively caught you by the waist to steady you. "I'm sorry," you both said simultaneously. Normally, you'd be flustered by such a handsome stranger holding you close, but there was no time for that now. You quickly bent down to gather your things, casting occasional glances at the purple-haired boy who was also picking up his phone and helping you collect your scattered items. You grabbed your phone and sprang to your feet. "Sorry again!" you called before rushing off. Changbin put away his headphones, his cheeks tinged with a light blush as he watched you disappear into the crowd. He didn't encounter such a beautiful girl every day, and now he didn't even have your name.
It wasn't until after your meeting that you pulled out your phone to check your messages. Something was off. The lock screen was unfamiliar. It displayed a group of eight boys in goofy poses, with the boy from this morning, now with black hair, flexing his biceps and smirking. You groaned, realizing you had picked up the wrong phone. Locked out, you couldn't call anyone from his contacts. Worse, you had just gotten a new number and couldn't remember it to call your own phone.
Two hours later, the phone rang, the screen showing "Yongbok." You answered with shaking hands. "Hello?"
"Hey, this is Changbin. I'm calling from a friend's phone. I think we bumped into each other this morning?"
You sighed in relief. "Yes! That was me. I think we accidentally switched phones."
He chuckled. "I think so too. Nice lock screen, by the way."
You groaned, embarrassed by the image of your favorite actor, Hwang In Youp. "Thanks," you mumbled.
"Do you want to meet up and switch phones back later?" he asked, amused.
"Yeah, sure. I'm off work in an hour."
"Okay. How about the restaurant down the street from where we bumped into each other?"
"Sure," you agreed. After exchanging goodbyes, you couldn't focus on work and finally sprinted out five minutes early, fitting your habit of arriving late and leaving early.
Arriving at the restaurant, you spotted Changbin's purple hair from afar and made your way over. He was sitting at a table in the back, your phone in hand.
"Hey," he greeted with a smile, "I hope you like iced tea." He pointed at the drink waiting for you.
"Yes, thank you. You didn't have to order anything for me," you said gratefully, taking a sip.
"It's an apology for earlier," he said, pushing your phone across the table.
You exchanged phones and sighed in relief. "Could've happened to anyone. I wasn't watching where I was going."
"At least it gave me an excuse to see you again," he smiled. "So... you still haven't told me your name."
Blushing, you replied, "Oh, sorry. I'm y/n."
"Nice to meet you, y/n. Do you want to eat something?" he asked, nervously.
You smiled. "Yes, let's eat together."
You enjoyed a meal together, chatting and discovering how much you had in common. While you were in the bathroom, he paid the bill.
"That really wasn't necessary," you said as you walked out into the dark, starry night.
"It's fine. Consider it another apology for running into you today," he insisted. "Should I walk you home?"
"It's a fifteen-minute walk. You really don't have to," you replied.
"No, it's late. Come on, you shouldn't walk alone at night," he said firmly. You smiled shyly, and you two began walking. Conversation flowed easily, and you marveled at how sweet and easygoing he was.
As you reached your door, he asked shyly, "Do you maybe want to meet again sometime?"
"I would love to," you mumbled, feeling the same shyness.
"Can I have your phone number then?" he asked, handing you his phone.
You smiled, typing it in and handing it back. "I had a nice evening today, thanks, Changbin."
"Me too," he said, hands in his pockets. "Sleep well, yes?"
"Sleep well," you replied. Gathering your courage, you stretched up and planted a sweet kiss on his cheek. He touched the spot where your lips had been, smiling widely.
"I'll text you," he promised.
Nodding, you finally went inside, feeling a sense of relief and excitement. Maybe being late for work wasn't so bad after all.
