The night had started like so many others—a casual gathering with your closest friends, laughter spilling out over bottles of soju and beer.

Changbin sat beside you, as always, his presence warm and steady. He teased you relentlessly throughout the night, his playful jabs softened by the way his eyes lingered on you a little too long and his smile curved a little too tenderly whenever you laughed.

You'd known each other for years. He was your best friend, the person you trusted most in the world. But recently, things had shifted in ways you didn't fully understand.

You couldn't ignore the way your stomach fluttered whenever he touched your arm, or the way your chest tightened whenever you caught him looking at you with something deeper than friendship in his eyes. You were terrified to ruin what you had by acknowledging it, so you pushed it down and hoped it would go away.

But tonight was different. The drinks flowed freely, loosening tongues and lowering inhibitions. You laughed until your sides hurt, and when the group began to dwindle, Changbin stayed by your side. The two of you eventually ended up at his apartment—something that had happened countless times before.

But tonight, the air felt charged, like there was something waiting just beneath the surface. You were sitting on the couch, legs curled under you, a beer bottle dangling loosely from your hand. Changbin leaned back against the armrest, his head turned toward you, his dark eyes softer than usual. "You're quieter than usual," he said, his voice low.

You shrugged, trying to play it off. "Just tired, I guess." His lips twitched into a small smile. "Liar. You've got that look on your face like you're overthinking again." You rolled your eyes, but his words hit too close to home. "Maybe I am. What of it?"

He tilted his head, studying you for a moment before responding. "You know you can tell me anything, right? I'm always here for you." The sincerity in his tone made your chest ache. You wanted to tell him everything—to lay your feelings bare—but the fear of losing him held you back. Instead, you deflected. "I know. Thanks, Binnie." But he didn't let it go. "Y/N, seriously. What's going on? You've been weird lately."

You hesitated, your heart pounding. The alcohol was making you braver than usual, and the way he was looking at you—like you were the only person in the world—was making it impossible to hold back. "Changbin," you began, your voice trembling slightly, "do you ever feel like... like there's something more between us? Something we're not saying?"

His eyes widened slightly, and for a moment, you thought you'd made a mistake. But then he exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "I feel it every damn day, Y/N." Your breath caught. "You do?" He nodded, his gaze locking onto yours. "I've been trying to ignore it because I didn't want to ruin what we have. But it's getting harder. Every time I'm around you, I—" He stopped, his voice faltering. "I'm scared, Y/N. Scared of losing you if I say the wrong thing."
