Author's note: I wrote this after I once again was reminded by a TikTok that Seungmin got Hyunjin a jacket and Hyunjin did not like it. 😭

The evening was peaceful in the dorm, a rare lull in the usually hectic schedule. You were in the living room, idly scrolling through your phone, while Seungmin sat on the other side of the room, pulling a sleek black jacket out of a shopping bag. He had a small, satisfied smile on his face, clearly pleased with his purchase.
You glanced up and noticed the jacket, instantly admiring its stylish design. "Nice jacket, Seungmin. Who's it for?"
Seungmin beamed, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "It's for Hyunjin. He's been talking about needing a new jacket, and I thought this would be perfect for him."
Before you could reply, Hyunjin walked into the room, his usual confident stride faltering when he noticed the jacket in Seungmin's hands. He tilted his head slightly, eyeing it with a hint of skepticism.
"Whose jacket is that?" Hyunjin asked, nodding toward the item in Seungmin's hands.
Seungmin glanced up, his smile broadening. "I just got it today. What do you think?"
Hyunjin took a closer look, his brow furrowing slightly. "Honestly? It's not really my style. A bit too plain for me."
The room seemed to freeze for a moment. You saw Seungmin's expression falter, the excitement draining from his face as Hyunjin's words sank in. He opened his mouth to respond but hesitated, clearly taken aback.
You quickly realized that Hyunjin didn't know the jacket was meant for him. He was just giving his honest opinion, completely unaware that his words were unintentionally hurtful.
Seungmin's shoulders slumped slightly as he looked down at the jacket. "Oh," he said softly, his voice laced with disappointment. "I... I actually bought it for you, Hyunjin."
Hyunjin's eyes widened in surprise, his casual demeanor dropping immediately. "Wait, you bought that for me?"
Seungmin nodded, clearly trying to hide his hurt but failing. "Yeah... I thought you might like it."
You could see the realization and regret flash across Hyunjin's face as he processed what had just happened. "Seungmin, I'm so sorry. I didn't know it was for me. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful or anything."
Seungmin shook his head, trying to brush it off with a forced smile. "It's fine, really. It's just a jacket."
But you knew it wasn't just about the jacket. Seungmin had put thought into the gift, wanting to do something nice for Hyunjin, and now he felt like he'd failed.
Feeling a pang of sympathy, you stood up and walked over to Seungmin, placing a comforting hand on his arm. "Seungmin, I think the jacket is great. Hyunjin didn't mean anything by what he said—he just didn't realize it was a gift."
Hyunjin, clearly flustered, quickly stepped forward. "Seungmin, I can see now that you really put thought into it. I didn't give it a fair chance. Let me try it on."
Seungmin hesitated, looking down at the jacket. "You don't have to, Hyunjin. If it's not your style, that's okay. I'll just return it."
But you intervened, sensing that Seungmin needed a little more support. "Actually, Seungmin, if Hyunjin doesn't want it, I'd love to have it. I think it's perfect, and it would mean a lot to me since you picked it out."
Seungmin looked at you, clearly surprised by your offer, and then back at Hyunjin, who was now visibly uncomfortable. Hyunjin quickly nodded, eager to resolve the situation. "Yeah, Y/N's right. If she likes it, she should have it. I don't want your thoughtful gift to go to waste."
You smiled at Seungmin, silently encouraging him. "What do you think? Can I have it?"
Seungmin's expression softened, the disappointment easing as he nodded slowly. "Sure, Y/N. I'd be happy for you to have it."
You took the jacket from Seungmin and slipped it on, instantly feeling how comfortable and well-made it was. "Wow, it's perfect! You really do have great taste, Seungmin."
Seungmin's smile returned, more genuine this time. "I'm glad you like it."
Hyunjin, still feeling guilty, scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "I'm really sorry, Seungmin. I didn't mean to dismiss your gift like that."
Seungmin waved him off with a more relaxed smile. "It's okay, Hyunjin. I know you didn't mean it like that. I'm just glad Y/N likes it."
The tension in the room finally lifted, and you all shared a few light-hearted jokes to move past the awkward moment. Later, as you admired yourself in the jacket, you noticed how Seungmin seemed to relax, happy that his gift was appreciated after all. And while Hyunjin might have missed the mark this time, you knew he'd find a way to make it up to Seungmin later.
For now, you were content knowing that a little misunderstanding had led to a deeper bond between all of you—and a stylish new jacket for your wardrobe.
