Jaehyun woke up feeling a dull ache in his head and a chill that made him shiver under his blankets. It was early morning, and the faint rays of sunlight slipping through the curtains barely warmed his room. He rubbed his eyes, groaning softly, and reached for his phone to check the time. It was 7 AM-earlier than he usually got up. He felt a bit dizzy and lethargic, but he brushed it off as fatigue from the previous day's practice.
Dragging himself out of bed, he stumbled towards the kitchen, hoping a hot cup of tea might help him feel better. The apartment was unusually quiet. He glanced around, noticing that none of the other BoyNextDoor members were up yet. They had all gone to bed late after a gruelling schedule, but Jaehyun felt a pang of loneliness as he realized how deserted the place seemed.
He made his tea and sat at the kitchen table, sipping slowly. The warmth was comforting, but the sickness seemed to cling to him stubbornly. His head pounded with every sip, and a wave of nausea washed over him. He laid his head on the table, trying to steady his breathing.
By mid-morning, Jaehyun's condition had worsened. The light-headedness and nausea persisted, and he found himself shivering uncontrollably despite the heating being on. He tried to call his members, but the texts went unanswered and his calls went straight to voicemail. Frustration mixed with his growing concern; why was no one responding?
Eventually, Leehan emerged from his room, groggy and disoriented. His eyes landed on Jaehyun, who was now curled up on the couch, visibly pale and shaking. Leehan frowned, walking over and gently placing a hand on Jaehyung's forehead.
"Hyung, You're burning up," Leehan said, concern etched in his voice. "Why didn't you say anything?"
Jaehyun tried to smile weakly, but the effort only made him feel dizzier. "I didn't want to bother anyone," he mumbled.
Leehan's expression shifted from confusion to alarm. He quickly got a thermometer and checked Jaehyun's temperature. The reading confirmed what he feared-a high fever.
"Why didn't you wake me?" Leehan asked, his voice firmer now.
Jaehyun shrugged slightly, feeling too weak to argue. "I didn't want to be a burden."
Leehan was having none of it. "No, this isn't okay. We need to get you to the hospital."
Leehan's sense of urgency finally stirred the rest of the members from their rooms. They wandered into the living room, groggy but attentive to the growing commotion. When they saw Jaehyun's pale face and Leehan's frantic movements, they began to realize the gravity of the situation.
"Is he okay?" Riwoo asked, his voice laced with concern.
"No," Leehan replied sharply. "He's got a high fever and he needs medical attention. Help me get him to the car."
The other members sprang into action, their earlier negligence replaced with a flurry of activity. They gathered their things, trying to make amends for their inattentiveness. It was a sobering moment as they carried Jaehyun carefully to the car.
The drive to the hospital was tense. Jaehyun leaned against the window, his eyes closed as he tried to stay calm despite the spinning sensation in his head. Leehan, sitting next to him, kept a reassuring hand on his shoulder, occasionally checking his temperature and trying to comfort him.
Once they arrived at the hospital, Jaehyun was quickly admitted. The doctors and nurses took over, and the members were left in the waiting room, their guilt palpable.
"I can't believe we didn't notice," Sungho said, his voice trembling. "He was suffering and we were so wrapped up in ourselves."
"Yeah," Taesan added, pacing the room. "We should have been more attentive."
Leehan, who had been providing Jaehyun's medical history and symptoms to the doctors, finally joined the group. His face was haggard, and he looked as though he hadn't slept in days.
"He's getting treatment now," Leehan said. "The doctors are doing everything they can. But we need to do better. We're a team, and we should have been there for him."
The members nodded solemnly, realizing that their actions-or lack thereof-had consequences. They had been so focused on their schedules and personal concerns that they had failed to notice Jaehyun's distress.
After a few hours of anxious waiting, the doctor emerged with an update. "Mr Myung was stable now, but he had been suffering from a severe infection that had caused his high fever. He would need to stay in the hospital for a few more days to fully recover."
The members breathed a collective sigh of relief, though their guilt lingered. They took turns visiting Jaehyun's room, where he was resting more comfortably now. His eyes were still heavy with exhaustion, but there was a hint of relief on his face when he saw his friends.
"I'm sorry," Jaehyun said weakly as they gathered around him. "I didn't want to cause trouble."
"No, Hyung," Leehan interrupted gently. "It's our fault. We should have noticed sooner. We were so focused on ourselves that we didn't see you needed help."
The members expressed their apologies, and Jaehyun nodded, understanding their remorse. He was touched by their concern but also felt a sense of sadness that it had taken such a crisis to bring it to light.
Over the next few days, the members were attentive and supportive, visiting Jaehyun regularly and making sure he had everything he needed. The incident served as a wake-up call for the group, prompting them to reassess their priorities and how they supported one another.
As Jaehyun gradually recovered and was eventually discharged from the hospital, the bond between the members was stronger than ever. They had learned a valuable lesson about the importance of being there for each other, not just in times of celebration but also in moments of need.
Jaehyun's illness had been a harsh reminder of the responsibilities they had towards each other. They promised to be more attentive and supportive, ensuring that their bond as a group would always be their strongest asset.
And so, with Jaehyun back on his feet and the group's dynamics reshaped by the experience, they moved forward together, stronger and more connected than before.
