The rehearsal room buzzed with energy. Music blasted from the speakers, a constant backdrop to the sound of feet hitting the floor in perfect rhythm. The members of P1Harmony were locked in, each focused on their movements as they practiced the choreography for their upcoming comeback.
Jongseob, usually at the center of this energy, was struggling to keep up today. It wasn't that his body wasn't moving in sync with the music-it was. But as he pushed through each routine, he felt a familiar, throbbing ache starting to build behind his eyes.
He blinked, trying to shake off the sensation. Not now, he thought. It had been a long time since his last migraine, and he'd been hoping that they were a thing of the past. But today, during the middle of such an important rehearsal, it felt like one was creeping up on him, the kind of migraine that would render him useless for hours if not addressed early.
"Jongseob-ah, you good?" Keeho's voice broke through the music as the leader paused to give the group a brief rest.
Jongseob nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Let's keep going."
Keeho gave him a searching look, but with no time to waste, he clapped his hands, and the rehearsal resumed. Jongseob willed himself to push through, even as the bright studio lights overhead felt like they were boring holes into his skull. His head pulsed in time with the beat, each flash of the lights like a dagger in his eyes. He squeezed them shut for a moment, but the movement only made his head pound harder.
By the third run-through of the routine, the migraine was in full force. Jongseob's vision had started to blur around the edges, and the booming music felt like it was vibrating through his entire body in the worst way possible. His legs moved automatically, but the pain was overwhelming, making it hard to concentrate on anything else.
You can't stop now, he told himself. Everyone's working so hard. I can't let them down.
But his body had other plans. The pressure in his head was unbearable, and with every move, it felt like his brain was being squeezed in a vice. When the music finally cut out, Jongseob took the opportunity to slip away, as inconspicuously as possible. He didn't want to worry anyone, and he certainly didn't want them to think he was weak. He just needed a break-a few minutes in a quiet, dark space to let the migraine pass.
He found a small storage area in the back of the studio, far from the bright lights and the noise. Curling up in the corner, Jongseob pressed his hands against his temples, trying to block out the pain. His breathing was shallow, each inhale sending a fresh wave of agony through his skull. Just five minutes, he thought, closing his eyes against the pounding headache. Just five minutes, and I'll be fine.
Soul had always been the most observant of the group. He noticed the small things, like when someone's energy was off or when they were quieter than usual. And today, Jongseob hadn't seemed quite like himself. When he looked around the room and realized Jongseob wasn't there, an uneasy feeling settled in his chest.
"Soul? Ready to run it again?" Jiung's voice cut through his thoughts.
Soul hesitated, glancing toward the door. "Jongseob's gone."
Keeho immediately turned toward the empty spot where Jongseob had been standing moments earlier. His expression darkened with concern. "Where did he go?"
Soul shrugged. "Not sure. I think he was looking a little pale earlier, though."
Theo, who had been sitting near the back, stood up, his brow furrowed in worry. "Let's check the back. He couldn't have gone far."
Soul led the way, instinctively heading toward the storage area. Sure enough, as they rounded the corner, they found Jongseob curled up on the floor, his body tense and his face contorted in pain. His hands were pressed tightly against his head, and his breathing was uneven, like each breath took too much effort.
