The amusement park was buzzing with excitement, the sun casting a warm glow over the sprawling grounds. Laughter echoed through the air, blending with the clatter of rollercoasters and the hum of arcade games. Taesan looked around, trying to soak in the carefree atmosphere, but his stomach was already twisting with unease.

"I can't believe we're finally here!" Sungho exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across his face as he nudged Taesan's shoulder. "Come on, this is going to be amazing."

Taesan smiled back, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Yeah, it'll be fun."

Sungho didn't notice his hesitation. The taller boy was too busy scanning the park, his eyes already fixed on their destination: the enormous rollercoaster towering above them. The ride was a behemoth of steel and speed, its tracks snaking through the sky before plunging into dizzying drops. Taesan felt a cold sweat break out on his neck just looking at it.

It wasn't that he didn't want to enjoy the park with Sungho. In fact, he loved spending time with his friend—it was just that heights weren't exactly his thing. Or rather, they were the thing that terrified him most.

But Sungho had been so excited about the rollercoaster all week, and Taesan didn't want to let him down. He'd already made up his mind to push through the fear. After all, how bad could it be? It was just a ride, and it would be over in a couple of minutes.

"Come on, let's hit the rollercoaster first before the line gets too long," Sungho said, practically bouncing on his feet as he led the way.

Taesan swallowed hard but nodded. "Yeah... sure."

They weaved through the crowds, passing food stands and souvenir shops until they finally stood at the foot of the towering ride. The screams of riders echoed in the distance as the coaster zoomed through its loops and drops, and Taesan's heart rate picked up.

"Taesan, you okay?" Sungho's voice broke through his thoughts. He turned to find Sungho looking at him with a concerned frown. "You've been kind of quiet."

"I'm fine," Taesan lied, forcing a smile. "Just... thinking."

Sungho studied him for a moment longer, but then his smile returned. "Alright, well, let's go! We've been waiting for this."

Taesan followed as they got in line, his palms already damp with sweat. The closer they got to the front, the more the looming height of the ride seemed to press down on him. His chest tightened, but he kept his gaze focused ahead, trying not to look up.

This was fine. He could handle this.

Finally, they reached the platform and stepped into one of the cars. Sungho plopped down in the seat next to him, securing his harness with ease. Taesan fumbled with his, his fingers trembling slightly, but managed to lock it in place. He glanced over at Sungho, who was practically vibrating with excitement, and the knot in his stomach twisted tighter.

The operator did a final check, and with a loud click, the rollercoaster began its slow ascent up the first hill. Taesan's heart pounded in his ears as the car climbed higher and higher. The sound of the chains dragging them upward filled the air, a steady, ominous clank that only made the tension worse.

He kept his eyes fixed on the back of the seat in front of him, refusing to look down. He could feel the air growing thinner as they rose, and his breaths became shallow. The higher they went, the more his fear began to creep in, inch by inch, until it was suffocating.

Just as the car reached the top of the first peak—the highest point of the entire ride—it stopped.

Taesan's breath hitched.
