Sakuya's breath came in ragged bursts as he sped down the busy halls, heart pounding, mind racing. He hadn't thought about the danger. His legs moved on autopilot, chasing the distant figure weaving through the crowd, clutching his backpack—the one holding more than just his essentials. The world blurred around him, a cacophony of colors and sounds fading into the background. All that mattered was that backpack.

It held his keyrings.

To anyone else, they might have seemed like ordinary trinkets—plastic, metal, worn leather charms attached to his bag, rattling softly as he walked. But to Sakuya, those keyrings were symbols of his journey, each representing a person or a moment that helped him keep going when he felt like he couldn't. Every one of them was tied to someone who had lifted him up during his lowest points. His first keyring, a small silver compass, was from Taeyong, given to him when Sakuya joined NCT Wish, reminding him to always find his way no matter how lost he felt. Another, a simple blue star, was from Ryo, his best friend and confidant in the group, gifted after Sakuya's first successful performance, when he was drowning in self-doubt.

And now, they were gone.

The thief disappeared around a corner, the backpack swinging from their shoulder. Sakuya felt the panic intensify, cold sweat prickling down his neck. His breathing grew uneven, and the pounding in his ears drowned out everything else. I have to get it back. I have to—

He didn't notice the stairs until it was too late.

His foot hit the edge of the top step, and suddenly the world tilted. Sakuya's arms flailed instinctively, but there was nothing to grab onto. He tumbled down the staircase, hard edges and cold pavement meeting his body in rapid succession. The last thing he saw before the world faded to black was the bright light above him, his chest constricting with more than just pain.

Ryo was the first to reach him.

"Sakuya!" His voice cracked as he dropped to his knees, hands trembling as they hovered over Sakuya's limp body. His right arm lay twisted at an unnatural angle, his leg bent in a way that made Ryo's stomach churn. He wanted to touch him, to wake him, to fix it—but fear rooted him in place. His throat tightened, his chest felt heavy, and all he could do was scream for help, desperate, broken words that barely made it past the lump in his throat.

The guilt hit him immediately. I should've stopped him. I should've known something was wrong.

He had seen it in Sakuya's eyes—the quiet panic, the way his hands shook ever so slightly before he took off running after the thief. Ryo had called out to him, tried to follow, but Sakuya was too fast. And now, here he was, unmoving, broken, and it was all Ryo's fault.

Tears blurred his vision as he clutched Sakuya's shirt, pleading softly. "Please, wake up... Sakuya, please..."

Sion, Riku, Yushi, and Jaehee arrived moments later, the sound of Ryo's desperate cries guiding them. The scene they found at the bottom of the stairs stopped them in their tracks.

Sion, usually the calm and steady leader of NCT Wish, felt his heart drop. His mind screamed at him to do something, but his hands trembled as he knelt beside Sakuya. "We need an ambulance," he said, his voice shaky but determined. "Riku, call now."

Riku's hand fumbled with his phone, fingers slipping as he dialed the emergency number. His voice cracked as he spoke, struggling to keep it together. Yushi and Jaehee stood frozen, eyes wide with shock, unable to process what was happening. Their maknae—their Sakuya, the one who always smiled and brought light to the group—lay battered and broken before them.

As Sakuya lay unconscious, Ryo remained by his side, feeling utterly helpless. He couldn't stop the sobs from escaping, guilt wrapping itself tighter around his chest with every second. He barely registered the others around him. All he knew was that Sakuya wasn't waking up, and it was tearing him apart.
