Gyuvin had always been the one to push through, no matter how tired or drained he felt. As one of the taller members of ZEROBASEONE, his presence was hard to miss, and his boundless energy and bright smile became staples of their promotions. But today, as he sat in the dressing room, surrounded by the usual chatter and activity, the knot in his stomach seemed to tighten with every passing minute.
He had barely eaten anything all day, afraid that even a single bite would tip him over the edge. His stomach churned uncomfortably, and he pressed a hand against his abdomen, trying to will the pain away. The hectic promotion schedule for their latest comeback had everyone on edge, but Gyuvin didn't want to be the one to fall behind. He couldn't. Not now.
The rest of the members were scattered around the room, some getting their makeup done while others practiced last-minute vocal runs. Ricky, his best friend and fellow member, sat on the couch beside him, scrolling through his phone.
Gyuvin shifted in his seat, hoping the movement would alleviate the nausea that was starting to creep up his throat. He hadn't said anything to the others. It was just a stomach bug. It would pass, right?
"Hey, you okay?" Ricky's voice cut through his thoughts. Gyuvin hadn't realized that his hand was still clutching his stomach, and he quickly let it fall to his side.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just... tired," Gyuvin said, forcing a smile.
Ricky's eyes narrowed, clearly unconvinced, but he didn't press further. Gyuvin was thankful for that. The last thing he needed was the others worrying about him when they had a performance to focus on.
A staff member called for their attention, signaling that it was almost time for their pre-performance rehearsal. The group began to gather their things, preparing to head to the stage. Gyuvin stood up slowly, his vision spinning for a moment as the nausea hit him with full force. He swallowed hard, trying to keep his composure, but his body wasn't cooperating.
Ricky watched him closely, his brow furrowing in concern. "You sure you're okay, Gyuvin?"
"I'm fine," Gyuvin said again, a little too quickly this time. He took a deep breath and gave Ricky a reassuring smile. "I'll be fine. Let's go."
The walk to the stage felt longer than usual. Every step seemed to send a wave of discomfort through Gyuvin's body, but he kept his head down, focusing on keeping his breathing steady. They were almost there. He just needed to get through the rehearsal, then maybe he could take a break before the actual performance.
As they reached the backstage area, the lights dimmed, and the familiar buzz of excitement filled the air. The staff was busy preparing, adjusting microphones, and setting up the stage. Gyuvin took his position with the rest of the members, but his vision blurred for a moment, and he had to blink a few times to steady himself.
The music started, and Gyuvin forced himself to move. The choreography was second nature to him by now, and his body moved on autopilot, but with each spin and jump, his nausea worsened. His stomach twisted painfully, and it felt like every muscle in his body was protesting against the strain.
As they neared the end of the rehearsal, Gyuvin felt his control slipping. He couldn't ignore it any longer. His stomach lurched violently, and before he could stop himself, he bolted offstage, barely making it to a corner backstage before he doubled over, retching.
Ricky was the first to notice Gyuvin's sudden disappearance from the stage. His heart sank, and without hesitation, he sprinted after him, leaving the other members confused. By the time Ricky found Gyuvin, he was on his knees, shaking as his body rejected everything in his stomach.
"Gyuvin!" Ricky was at his side in an instant, dropping down beside him and rubbing his back gently. "Hey, it's okay. Breathe."
Gyuvin gagged again, his body convulsing as he tried to hold back the sickness. Ricky's hand was firm but comforting on his back, grounding him. Tears pricked at the corners of Gyuvin's eyes, not just from the nausea but from the embarrassment. He hated feeling this weak, especially in front of the others.
